12 Days of Solutions, Day 9: The RSC Budget

Today is Day 9 of the Tea Party Patriots’ 12 Days of Solutions. Rather than look to raise more taxes on the American people while ignoring the facts about the national debt’s burden on our nation – in other words, what Washington is doing – we are outlining a number of ways Washington can actually do its job to improve the economy and balance the budget.
One of the better plans to come out of Washington in years is the Republican Study Committee’s (RSC) budget for the 2013 Fiscal Year. The budget proposal, which balances the budget by 2020, includes tax reform, entitlement reform, empowers states, and repeals the Affordable Care Act.
Here are the highlights:
- The budget repeals the Affordable Care Act in its entirety
- It reduces non-defense discretionary spending, meaning the federal government’s bureaucracies would take less of your money and have less power.
- It makes a number of savings in mandatory spending outside of Medicare, Social Security, and Medicaid, totaling $1.9 trillion over a decade.
- Both Social Security and Medicare would see increases in their respective retirement ages.
- Private competition would be provided in Medicare, letting free market principles lower the exploding costs of the program.
- Medicaid would be block-granted to states, reducing the bureaucratic footprint of Washington and empowering states to have more control as to how best to help their citizens.
- Tax reform is included in the budget – loopholes are cut and rates are lowered.
No budget is perfect, and the RSC budget could improve by cutting defense spending and doing more to make Social Security solvent, among other things. However, the steps it takes are tremendous, especially in comparison to what Washington typically considers “radical” plans. This plan balances the budget far faster than the House Republican budget, and is worlds better than the President’s wishful thinking budget.
Unfortunately, this budget didn’t pass the House due to opposition from both parties. It was and is considered too “radical” for Washington, where putting trillions of debt on the shoulders of your children and grandchildren is the mainstream perspective. Clearly, in the Beltway, moving the federal government within constitutional bounds and balancing the budget in a finite time frame is more radical than saving the next generations from crushing tax hikes and high unemployment as the debt continues to mushroom.
With Washington continuing to act in a way most Americans consider radical, the RSC budget exists in limbo, one of many real solutions establishments from both parties would rather ignore as debt piles up.

Neccessity for national agenda for tea party movement. Our new king (minority group known as the Washington politician, elected officials) is out of control. Unlike the king of England they have no life expectancy, however like the king they believe they can do anything they want (Chuck Schumer) and they are responsible for the current status of our country including the crash of 2008. By repealing the 1934 banking regulation passed by the FDR administration to prevent another depression they laid the ground work for the crash. The housing industry experienced increased demand that resulted in higher housing prices, greater profits, and increased tax revenues benefitting the rich. When losses occurred the rich wrote them off against other income, paying lower taxes. By not reinstating the 1934 regulation, based on the time frame of the recent crash, we will have to endure another depression around 2028. Historians after determing the losses will call the crash the greater depression and place the blame solely on the shoulders of the Washington politicians. The american middle and lower classes make up over 80% of the market and work force. We need to address the methods used by our politicians to compromise our constitution and to demand legislation and budgets that meet our needs and not theirs. We definitely need a unified tea party movement.
The only radical plan I am aware of is the Democrats’ plan to perpetually borrow money because the only people they intend to make pay for their government don’t even have that much money if you taxed them at 100 percent and made them destitute.
The most important issue is the total public debt.
NO MORE DEBT. NOT FOR ANY REASON.
Draw a line in the sand and stand behind it.
Cut what needs to be cut and make revenue equal spending. Everyone must acknowledge the magnitude of threat the debt poses for us.
DBWriter,
Bone Head has oficially caved with his Plan B
Yes. Just like the past 2 years, the Democrats have John Boehner giving them everything they want. We have to select a new Speaker. Boehner obviously has nothing in common with us. If we do not replace Boehner, the Democrats have a radical plan to create an all-powerful government and we may not get another chance to save the constitutional republic…. within the halls of government.
Boehner needs to get this message loud and clear:
NO MORE DEBT. NOT FOR ANY REASON.
Lead, follow, or get the hell out of the way.
Watch as they eat their own. Great stuff.
The RSC budget is sensible. Not radical but of course anyone who holds the original intent of the constitution are called radicals. This explains alot why this nation is fallen. In addition, we have GOP “leadership” advocating , not cutting tax rates and spending for everybody, instead raise taxes on job creators and keep the “BUSH” tax rates same for the last thirteen years. The GOP leadership are pathetic, sellouts!!
Scott, the reality is, since January, 2007, when the Democrats took full control of all the purse strings of our government, the debt has grown to the degree where it actually threatens the existence of the constitutional republic. That debt must be paid. There are two things that must happen; government spending must be cut to equal revenue, and additional revenue must be achieved.
The two basic options for raising revenue is raising the taxes on the half of the population paying taxes, or increasing the number of people paying taxes. The Democrats’ plan is to rais the taxes on the half of the population paying all the taxes already. Boehner is going to give that to them. Nobody is talking about increasing the number of people paying taxes. That needs to change.
For a permenant solution, everyone must pay taxes. If everyone pays taxes, then we will begin to elect a sane government.
When you are dealing with Democrats, you are dealing with people that aren’t significantly different than the people who surrounded Hitler and Stalin. Don’t negotiate with people like that.
Fox News stated the tax increase on the job creators making over $400k will cost the country 800,000 jobs. The Liberals just don’t get it.
Hellfire,
Considering how Fox News did on the election I always look for additional sources for confirmation.
But all Republicans were wrong. Everyone was predicting a landslide even though the polling did not agree. Karl Rove tried to use special math but it didn’t work out. Bill O’Reilly said it’s because white people are a minority. Joe Scarborough got into a pissing match with Nate Silver and lost.
We can’t raise taxes on the job creator!
As I understand our founders intent, the primary intent of government was to maintain order and see to the common defence. To maintain order I would expect a common language, culture, mechanism of exchange. To see to the common defence, a functional military, and infrastructure.
Money is a common means of exchange. When a government expects to use it for all sorts of interventions into the private sphere, useing the very debt it creates as a means of enslavement, wouldn’t it seem rational to call the individual politicians to account for willfully destroying the integrity of the nation as a whole?
TO THE RINO’S who want to tell us we are hurting the party listen up. We picked 2 rino’s in 2012 and2008. One was arguably a decent man with a great service record who championed the term”maverick” for working with the democrats.THEY LOST (were cheated out of their win is more obvvious this time).
You want us to be democrats but we are not. I dont really believe you are conservatives as you say because you say you give up the fiscal issues because of tea party radicalism. What do you gain fiscaly by doing that? I have core values so I vote them to the best of my ability. Romney did’nt share my religion but after getting the nomination I campaigned for him in 2 states and legaly voted for him in 1.
WE CAN GET DEMOCRATS by showing a difference and getting away from voter machines that you can’t see people stealing votes on when they’re doing it. Hopefuly the electors refuse to seat Obummer for a variety of reason .
Many democrats are or claim to be Christian and they feel burnt but wont follow a wishy washy Rino. Obummer championed 1- Abortion murder.(by championing it I mean supported it with enthusiasm on the campaign trail. 2- Gay marriage, gay rights 3- Blame 4- racebaiting 5-debt 6-laziness (welfare as a way of life ad to any entitlement not earned or being misused) 7- Selfishness (people voting for their subsidy, benefit, or unnecessarry position or union rather than what solves the problem for their country or company) there are more.
Romney was the lesser of two evils to me and if you were conservative he was for you also or you had full faith with him. Obummer was anti- Christian possition or anyone who reads the Bible well would know as anti-Christ by possition at least. Romney was weak possitioned as he did’nt oppose anti-Christ possitions. The results are Biblicaly predictable to a believer who has observed long enough the hisrory and that is for whatever you can point at Romney was’nt blessed with a win.In the end will you be either hot or cold because the middle is’nt appreciated by either side. Our schools teach political corectness and not moality. Morality can be legislated as well as immorality most people can tell, but our schools dont teach it anymore if they teach at all. I have family graduated from high school who read very poorly.(now point out my mispelling)
Bottom line PICK A REAL PRINCIPALED CONSERVATIVE LIKE RONALD REAGAN AGAIN AND THEN WE WILL WIN. (if we get a verifiable election system like voter ID or verifiable ballots or nonsecret ballots ect.Everyone knows where I stand and who I voted for and why and I would’nt change it for some fear.
I wish the viginia and other state primary’s would have gone different because I feel the cheating would have been more obvious because of the polling would have showed greater enthusiasm for a true conservative with founding father principals of limiited government( not Romneycare) Power to the people constitutional government as opposed to czars that are’nt elected or agencies with unconstitutional authority like the EPA .
I will support a third party candidate who starts now pushing these values with clarity and conviction if they promiss to give over their base if they cant win in the final days to the lesser of the remaining evils with a chance. starting now could be successfull but it has to be big and undeniably popular or it will be ignored
Trust Jesus above men anyway you won’t lose where it matters
BrotherJoe,
What about Michelle Bachman, Allen West or Sarah Palin? They are all principled conservatives and real Christians.
Would someone fix the system so the Flucking Flagit cant flag all the comments as inapropriate this stops the transfer of contents to ones site via the likes key and they know it.
I have been a FairTax activist for over 8 years, during that time, I guess, I’ve seen about a hundred different comments promoting a Flat Tax. Many times the Flat Tax promoter tries to compare it with HR-25, the FairTax bill, only to fall short in one area or another. Sometimes they fail to mention the “prebate” when casting a doubt about the FairTax being regressive.
Or they will fail to mention the “Sunset Clause” in HR-25 when casting doubtful question about a possibility of ending up with two taxing systems, a consumption and a income. They also leave out the fact that we have presently have two Federal taxing systems. We have the Income Tax “Sys / tem” and we have a 22% (on average) hidden or embedded tax in what we purchase now, and that comes from the highest corporate tax in the world.
Would a Flat Tax be Tax Relief? Absolutely. Would a Flat Tax be true Tax Reform? It hasn’t in the past, because it maintains the Income Tax “Sys / tem” which is easily manipulated. I still don’t mine considering a Flat Tax, but when promoting the idea of a Flat Tax I only wish the promoter would mention a specific Flat Tax bill, HR-what? Then
list the number of congressional co-signers, and last give us a idea about the research behind the bill. Then we can compare it with the two years, 23 million dollars worth of comprehensive economic research (leading economist, leading universities) that the FairTax has behind HR-25. If the FairTax is so great then why hasn’t it passed in all these years? The short answer is power in side the beltway of Washington DC. The full answer can be found in REPUBLIC, LOST by Lawrence Lessig. All FairTax and Tea Party activist should download this book today and start reading it. Merry Christmas, and Happy New Year. Keep up the fight.
ATTENTION EVERYONE!
Enough is Enough! Hidden in the 3,000 page Affordable Care Act, aka OBAMACARE, which the supreme court declared is A TAX, has somehting much more terrrible than the infringement of our liberties that we all know about. Starting in 2014, a small, but morally significant increase in our payroll taxes are going to THE UNITED NATIONS! We are paying a UN TAX, to go to poorer countries to pay for THEIR HEALTHCARE. HE IS TRYING TO USHER IN A WORLD GOVERNMENT, through sneaky tactics like this. WE NEED TO REPEAL OBAMACARE, and STOP THE UN TAX!
