What’s coming down the pike

The election is over. Most Americans have gone back to their lives. Meanwhile, the tough battles of 2012 aren’t over, so Tea Party Patriots is making sure you’re ready to fight.
Over the next seven weeks, Congress has three major issues coming down the pike. First is sequestration, which would reduce the growth of spending. Second is hundreds of billions of dollars in tax hikes. Third is the farm bill, which has been held up in the House.
Unfortunately, as is typical, Washington wants to avoid its responsibilities with all three of these forthcoming debates. Sequestration – related to the Budget Control Act – is likely to be overturned. If Congress can’t look at reducing spending by less than 8% of the budget in 2013, how can we count on it to actually do its job and balance the budget?
Taxes, of course, are a major issue. Speaker Boehner has said tax increases are on the table, something Tea Party Patriots finds totally unacceptable. Washington already takes too much of our money. All other taxes set to go up at the end of this year should stay at their current levels, setting the stage for legitimate tax reform next year, not more tax dollars for politicians to waste.
Finally, the farm bill – which spends $20 billion on farm subsidies and $80 billion on food stamps each year for five years – should not pass. We spend too much on social welfare as it is, and the food stamp program has grown immensely, even outside of the recent recession, in the last 12 years.
Once the new Congress convenes, it will have to deal with the coming debt ceiling debate – should America endure another hike or not? Should we continue to allow Washington to spend at levels never seen in the history of the world or not?
We’ll have more details as the debates get closer, but this is an official heads-up that the tough battles aren’t over. Thanks for staying in the fight.

Think that conservatives just must broaden their appeal by focusing more on economic conservatism and leaving out the gay and abortion thing. And that does not make me a Libertarian! I am small business owner and Republican but I see that this country has changed for the worse in business. I think Mr Romney is a good man and given just his business sense, he would have won. I have nothing against preaching the gospel but just feel we would be better off for a while if we just stay with the economy. God BLess.. Is anyone talking about the control wielded by the military-industrial complex being financed through a loose monetary policy at the Federal Reserve? If the love of money is the root of all evil, then let’s talk about pulling up the root feeding to the Federal Reserve.
What we need is a way forward.
To anyone with any knowledge of accounting, we cannot sustain more debt. The only solution coming from the Democrats is to borrow more money, as if some other country will put the government of the United States on their welfare rolls like the government here is putting more people its welfare rolls.
The Republican leadership in Congress has been abysmally weak. They are cowards. When we needed for them to speak up strongly, they cowered and spoke nebulously. Eric Holder told them to GFY, and they cowered in their corner of the playground like weaklings.
We need a new Speaker.
We need a new Minority Leader.
NO MORE DEBT. NOT FOR ANY REASON. MAKE THE GOVERNMENT CUT WHAT IT DECIDES TO CUT TO BRING US BACK TO FISCAL SANITY.
When the social programs get their fair share of the cuts, there will be social upheaval. Those communities that have been trained to wait on the government to take from everyone else and give to them the sustenance they need will riot.
We should do nothing to stop them. After it is over, let them live in the ashes they created. Do not subsidize the rebuilding of the ruins they created. We should react to the event as if it is what it actually is – a tantrum. Let them throw it, then let them live in the mess they create. Those that want a better life will separate themselves from those who will continually throw tantrums when the government doesn’t give them everything they want.
Should we continue to placate the portion of the population that throws these tantrums, we will continue to increase the divisions among us. We are on the brink of secession in many regions. The government should make it clear to these people that they must become self-reliant. There isn’t any money to support them anymore. We need a Speaker and a Minority Leader that will say this, and draw a line in the sand.
There is no avoiding the reality that we must suffer the consequence of a reduced status in the world. It is fallacy to pretend otherwise. We cannot avoid the consequence of our enemies that are the reality in the world will become stronger as we become weaker. We must look beyond that to the future and make the decisions today necessary for us to resume our position after we solve these domestic problems that threaten our existence. More debt will only delay the resurgence we will need in the future and make it more difficult.
We need people in Congress that will stand firm on the principle that borrowing more money will only worsen our already critical situation.
The most significant threat to our existence is the debt.
We need a new Speaker.
Paul Ryan.
We need a new Minority Leader.
Mark Rubio.
If we do not develop a stronger presence in our government, this country and government will not survive. It will be replaced by the usual dictatorial oligarchies that were the norm in the world before the emergence of the United States to the apex of international influence.
our politicians should be made to work within a balanced budget…….cut the pork and unnecessary programs and roll back salaries and benefits to congressmen…….but don’t raise taxes or take away from the military……we can do it if everyone tries……..

We haven’t had a budget in 4 years. We’re drowning in debt, and the Democrats’ solution is to get rid of any kind of a budget. You can’t get more insane than that.
If Congress can’t decide what to cut, then cut every line item in government without any exceptions an arbitrary 10 percent every year until we get down to a size of government the economy can actually pay for.

I have a question and I have no idea how to find the answer. I am sure that you can figure it out. My question is: If the government took every penny that the “rich” people made this year, what would be compared to the national debt?
It depends on how we define rich.

The peole the Democrats define as “rich” have a total earnings of 1.67 trillion dollars. If they were taxed at 100 percent and made destitute, it still wouldn’t pay for the government the Democrats created. It’s a no brainer it wouldn’t pay for the government and the note on the debt, too.
The reality is, unless money starts growing on trees, EVERYONE’S (that is, the people actually paying all the taxes) taxes will have to be raised something like 20 to 30 percent to pay for the government the Democrats created. And, that 47 percent that doesn’t pay any income taxes are going to have to start paying.
This would be true regardless of who won the election. It’s simple arithmetic and logic. If Romney ran, we’d have had a chance at bring the size of government down to something sane. Now, there’s no chance of that.
I don’t think anyone should pay more taxes, we ALL should pay the same %, and everyone should pay something no matter how poor, it’s my understanding that over half the people in America do not pay any taxes, if true that is not right. Spending is so out of control!!!!!!!!
Small point. The 47% do pay taxes, just not Federal Income Tax because they fall below the threshhold agreed to by both Republicans and Democrats back when they worked together. That includes a lot of people that only have Social Security for one example.

The republicans will fold. With the looming 30% across the board reduction they agreed to, the re-election of the great FRAUD and the Ds still controlling the senate, the only bargining chip the R’s have is to make concessions where they should be holding the line. The R’s still can’t figure why it is the American people are rejecting their guys…they are disconnected, have little to no clue, and will play ball.

The road to financial stability is by controlling the rise of the Debt Ceiling. The Tea Party needs to go to the carpet, including Government shutdowns, to control spending. The Tea Party needs to hold out for real reductions in Federal spending by month to month expansion of Government borrowing authority if need be. The Debt Ceiling should be expanded, with a 1% reduction in real terms of borrowing authority each month for at least 4 years from 2013 to 2017. This means a 48% reduction from current levels in spending over the next 4 years. To get everyone’s attention, cuts should be across the board for the first 5 months, including Social Security, Medicare, Federal pensions, and Federal salaries. After the 5 months of across the board cuts, then Congress and the Administration can look at serious cuts to “Pork”.
This can be done. In the early 1920′s, the Federal Government was cut in half in only 2 years and created one of the most phenomenal periods of growth in American history. With a path of forced and reduced borrowing authority, the Government will have no choice but to pursue pro-growth policies or significantly downsize in real terms.
Once the Tea Party gets control of borrowing, they should pursue repeal of the 17th Amendment. Popular voting of Senators upsets the balance of power between the People, the States, and the Federal Government. With the States once again providing Senators, States rights will increase and individual power in the Senate will decrease as Senators will change with the elections of new administrations within the individual States.
After the Tea Party tackles the 17th Amendment, it needs to repeal the 16th Amendment. The People can never have freedom when their Government has unlimited taxing authority. Without control over taxation, the People are only left with force as a means to control Government! As we have learned, with unlimited taxing authority the Government can “buy” votes by manipulation of the tax codes. Tax codes need to be uniform and not favor any “special interest”. The goal should be to reduce the size of the Federal Government to less than 10% of the GDP. If people want “bigger” government, that should be pursued at the State and Local levels.
The pension plan for all elected and appointed Federal Officials should be limited to the average income of an American Family of 4 and adjusted to that amount yearly. Politics and Government service should not be a “profession”, but a calling, and no one should become “rich” as a Politician or Federal employee. This limit should be imposed on all Federal retires – immediately. For a Federal retired employee, including a Congressman or even a President, to receive a 6 figure pension, when the average American family makes only about $50,000 is a national disgrace. While the Government needs to provide competitive salaries to workers, it shouldn’t provide anything more than “average” family income for retirement.
Finally, the Tea Party needs to pursue an Amendment to limit the term of office for all federal judges to one term of 10 years, including Supreme Court Justices.
The Tea Party needs to begin immediately in an information campaign to outline their ideals, ideas, and goals for the next 4 years; something like the “Contract with America”. The immediate reduction in Federal pension plan outlays should be put forth as the “rich” politicians doing their part.
GuvGeek, The Tea Party really does not care about fiscal conservatism. Have you ever to a Tea Party rally? I have and if you look around 1/3 to 1/2 the people are collecting Medicare or Social Security. This movement is a religious fundamentalist movement against abortion and gay marriage.

Shut the government down. The government spends a whole lot less money when it is shut down than when it isn’t. If the government can’t decide what and where to cut, then let it shut down until there is enough revenue to pay for it. Make them find ways to bring some fiscal sanity back to our government.

The time for pie-in-the-sky theories is past. Strategic thinking is needed. We can’t avoid a fiscal crisis because the Democrats want one. They want the Republicans to stand on principle and refuse to “compromize” by going along with tax increases. I say let the Democrats and the voters have what they want, higher taxes on the rich, and implement ObamaCare. Then at least the crisis will clearly be the fault of Democrat policies. The Democrats want to be able to blame Republicans for any bad news and take credit for any good news. Let’s not fall into their trap.
That’s what GWB did, look where it got us! It’s time for Strategic, long term action in a common sense mode that even the most financially challenged can comprehend. Working Americans have been living with a reduction in real income for over 20 years. It’s time we put realistic limits on Federal Government expansion by placing realistic limits on its continued growth as part of GDP. The Federal Government needs to learn to live within its financial means just like everyone else.
I applaud your sentiments but the sad truth is that Gov’t has been nearly constantly in debt since the Revolution. It has never been able to “live within its means” because it has never been able to maximize revenue.
I’ve got another great trap for you …what if all is done as you say and then the country prospers under Democrat leadership? What a freakin’ nightmare!

According to the Constitution, THERE IS NO SUCH THING AS A RESIDENT OF THE NATION’S CAPITAL. But, Congress has managed the nation’s capital to the point where the reality is an insignificantly small portion of the population can throw a tantrum and completely shut the functioning government down.
The options are: force all “residents” of DC to declare what state or territory or possession they are actually residents of; evict all “residents” from the area defined by the Constitution as the nation’s capital; or move the seat of government to some other location… and don’t make the same mistake again.
During the Cold War there were plans developed to move the seat of government given the case of a catastrophic event. It’s time to review and update those plans.

Hi, Yes we need a new speaker and minority leader, and we basically need to stand our ground, across the board, NOW! This extends way beyond the few REAL representatives we have in our government though. The socialists in our government are demanding more and more from us in personal wealth, and in personal freedom too. They don’t give a damn what we want or need, they care about one thing, THE STATE. So they lie, and break the law to make themselves richer and more powerful at our expense. Also, very importantly, they have their little propaganda ministry, the media, to hide what they are doing, by lying for them, and selectively reporting the news. So, we seem to be at a point where we have statists controlling the government, a propaganda ministry covering for them, and enough, stupid, uninformed, and greedy people voting for them that they are kept in power! Look, we all know what is right, we all know what the law is, we all know what the Constitution says. As long as we permit all of this to be disregarded we are going to continue to be ruled and we are going to continue to be used as ATM machines by the government, and people who think that they are entitled to the fruits of our labor. We’ve already lost the country but we can get it back. Draw a line, and simply resist.
