Senator Rand Paul addresses Tea Party Patriots and new Members of Congress
November 20, 2012 at 11:42 am in News by Tea Party Patriots 29 Comments

Last Friday, Senator Rand Paul (R-KY) dropped by the Tea Party Patriots’ Freshman Orientation. The Senator, whose values align closely with the Tea Party, has led opposition to the high-spending ways of both parties in the Senate.
The Senator spoke for about 11 minutes, but despite its brevity his speech was full of necessary knowledge and principles for Tea Partiers and Members-elect alike. Specifically, Senator Paul spoke about zero-based budgeting (as opposed to today’s baseline budgeting, which always assumes increases in the federal budget) and the many inefficiencies in the federal budget.
Senator Paul was elected on certain principles in 2010, and he has stuck to those principles in spite of their unpopularity among his colleagues. Tea Party Patriots thanks him for coming by, and for his time before, during, and after his speech, which our members greatly enjoyed.
You can see the Senator’s speech here or in the embedded video below.

I know what we stand for but we should talk about the tax exempt status. We need to bring a more direct message from candidates to Americans. If we (Palm Beach County Tea Party) had been able to give out Allen West door hangers with our 25,000 voter guides, Wests’ 1900 vote loss may have turned out differently.
Years ago before there was a Tea Party, about 12 friends and I drove and walked all night putting up Giuliani signs and posters and we won. With the PBCTP, about 8 of us walked the streets and that is not good.
We really should be open to more ideas from everyone. At our first Tea Party meeting in 2009 in Martin County Florida with Cindy Lucas, someone said, “leave your ego at the door”. Since that time, all we have seen nothing but big egos – people that send out emails but never show up to their own rallies.
We have a strong massage but not enough “dedicated” people to do what needs to be done to win.
Thanks -
Stand Tall — Stand UP for conservatism. Don’t Bend. Don’t compromise core values and beliefs. The future is ours! Onward!
Cathy McCormick–
That’s the spirit! Pig-headed stubbornness and a childish refusal to compromise is SO patriotic. You get yours, sister, although you may face some rough going since the majority of registered voters of all stripes disagree with your rabidly conservative-to-the-death my-way-or-the-highway manifesto.
Why should Cathy or any other conservative compromise their beliefs. I will stubbornly stick with my beliefs that the Government is too big, too powerful, taxes too much, spends too much money, and erodes our rights. The conservative politicians that were elected by a majority had better represent the voters that elected them.
Because we cannot get anywhere without working together. How is that not abundantly clear? If both sides refuse to give an inch the only ones who suffer are the citizens. This was amply demonstrated when the republican party declared that defeating every one of Obama’s initiatives was their number one priority–not you, not me, not the country, just blocking any hope of bipartisan progress. Yes, we have to restrain governmental growth and cut spending. But if no one is prepared to negotiate on how will that happen we can’t make progress. This holds true for democrats, libertarians, any party that puts themselves above the needs of this nation. We need solutions and a stubborn refusal to work with the “opposition” because they won’t cave to your every demand helps no one. I for one am tired of this kind of short-sighted thinking. The voters have spoken and the popular vote was nearly an even split–that means we HAVE to come together to get this country moving forward, To me, it’s worth giving an inch to accomplish that.
Once again Veronikka. I believe that if we do not drastically reduce spending, taxes, government and the erosion of our civil liberties and rights we will all lose. I want the politicians I voted for to fight to reduce every single dime possible. I want them to reduce government every where they can. I want them to preserve the Bill of Rights without compromise. I believe that is what this nation needs. I believe the election became polluted with too many social issues. You want middle ground find it there.
We are taxed too much? You cry for the good old days but you apparently haven’t done any research. I googled it for you. You’re welcome.

Just because the income tax has kept going up and up doesn’t mean we can’t try and fight to get it down some. Of course with Obama in office we probably can forget it but we should try anyway. We need to stop funding our enemies overseas and all these unneeded organizations that do get donations.
I cannot compromise with someone who wants to destroy me. What do I negotiate? How many of my bones get broken? Can’t do it.
You’re idiots! We have one of the lowest tax rates in the history of our nation! Reagan cut taxes and started draining money from your beloved Medicare and SS. If you want your entitlements, which most of the tea party are currently enjoying, you have to pay dummies!
who is the idiot???? you think tea party lives off entitlement programs???? man you are dead wrong! seems to me you are the only IDIOT i’ve seen on here
This fake tea party is fake because if it were real it would have recognized RON Paul as the only tea party candidate… the one who started the TRUE movement in 2007.
I think the TEA Party is a continuation of the Throw The Rascals Out movement that began in the late 80s, and was largely responsible for the overthrow of the Democrats in the 1994 mid-term election.
Athough they honor Bob Dole, they didn’t approve of his nomination. They saw him as too weak of a candidate to face Bill Clinton. After Clinton beat Dole, which everyone predicted immediately after the convention, they lost momentum.
I think that is the roots of the TEA Party of today.
MG–Since slightly more than half the nation is not on the same page with you I think you will find the future quite exasperating.
Mongoose–the ‘socialist’ stuff again? Really? Enjoy your paranoid delusions.
It’s actually Constitution and fiscal sanity versus the Democrats.
Pick a side.
Tighten up your chin strap. It’s going to get rough.
If you recall American history, it requires a lot of sacrifice to put the Constitution in place the first time.
Please don’t make us do that again.
The Constitution is a brilliant governmental philosophy. Adhering to the Constitution automatically prevents the norm of dictatorial oligarchies seizing control of government. Adhering to the Constitution allows everyone to be free. Americans haven’t been the subjects of ANYONE in 232 years. We are our own masters.
If you look at the unconstitutional authority being given in increments to the office of president, it becomes obvious that we are drifting away from limited representative government toward dictatorship.
And, you are not guaranteed of having the next dictator being on your side.
You seem to forget this fact of life and history.
The call of the typical progressive is to expand government. That is what we have gotten. Bush and Obama have expanded the national debt by such wild spending and borrowing by triple; from 5 trillion to 16 trillion in just the last 11 years. Is that the compromise you seek? I love to hear conservatives say they want to conserve but spend even more.
Hey Veronikka, if you want more of the same “bi-partisanship” then just expect more debt, more spending, more unconstitutional activities and less freedom. But you’re an adult and should have figured that out by now. So, I have to conclude that you want that outcome. Based on your words, how can I be wrong?
To help me out Veronikka, please name for me the departments and agencies that you would defund because they are unconstitutional? Just one or two would be sufficient. And while you’re at it, how much would it cut from the federal budget? At your pace, how long will it be before we stop borrowing from our children each year?
Let’s have a bi-partisan discussion, shall we?
Ah, yes. If it’s not all Bush’s fault, it’s mostly Bush’s fault.
Hwerre’s the facts:
When Bush took office the debt was 5 trillion dollars.
The dot-com bust.
The Arab jihad declares a global war on the United States.
In January, 2007, the Democrats take control of all the purse strings of givernment with a debt of 8 trillion dollars and a deficit of 160 billion dollars after 5 years of full-scale war which followed the dot-com bust.
Bush and the Republicans added 3 trillin dollars to the debt from 2001 to 2007 while dealing with the dot-com bust and fighting a global war in a total of 6 years.
The Democrats added 8 trillion dollars to the debt from 2007 through 2012 after the war was largely won and dealing with the economic collapse in 2008 which was caused by the Democrats’ Marxist subprime housing mortgage underwriting program, which collapsed our economy after just 2 years of oversight by Democrats (Frank and Dodd).
Let’s see…. 5 trillion to 8 trillion in 6 years…. 5 from 8… that’s 3 trillion dollars in 6 years, or half a trillion dollars a year.
8 trillion to 16 trillion in 6 years… 8 from 16… that’s 8 trillion dollars in 6 years, or 1.33 trillion dollars a year.
It appears that the Democrats are almost three times as bad as Republicans, if you just count the debt.
How about the deficit?
160 billion to… what is it now? 1.33 trillion.
It appears the Democrats are more than 8 times worse than Republicans if you just take into account fiscal responsibility.
… and we haven’t even begun to talk about foreign policy and how Obama blatantly lies to everyone in the country as if what Americans think isn’t worth that stack of dogshit on the East Lawn.
DB, I don’t think the majority of Murica is worried about the SS and Medicare bandits rising up to forcefully institute their plutocratic dreamland.
You’re pretty easy to predict. Let’s see…
Saul Alinsky’s Rule Number 5. “Ridicule is man’s most potent weapon. It is almost impossible to counteract ridicule. Also it infuriates the opposition, which then reacts to your advantage.”
Let’s see if I can do something like “react to your advantage.”
Americans have been trained to expect the government to provide for them that which they think they need, having been taught to ignore the difference between the words in the English language need and want.
Therefore, Americans, in general, are ignorant of the dire circumstances the current debt catastrophe creates.
Can I get an “amen” from the choir….
How about we get one of those ole patriotic chants going….
Everybody. All together now.
“God DAMN America!”
Now, doesn’t that make you feel better?
You may not be aware that Tea Party Patriots does not endorse candidates, and never has. Our members are free to support (or recognize) which ever candidates they choose. Some supported Ron Paul, some did not. Again, it was their choice.
Regarding the “roots of the tea party”, I can’t think of a single tea party person who “honored” Bob Dole, nor is the “Throw the Rascals Out” movement remotely related to the current tea party movement.
Bob Dole was one of the millions of Americans putting his life on the line and fighting and killing and living right next to Americans dying doing the exact same thing he was doing.
Any TEA Party member honors that.
Well, a certain party up there thinks we should “compromise”. Uh, maybe if the other party was actually a Democrat Party, like the one JFK was a part of, but for all intents and purposes there is no longer a Democrat Party. It is now The American Socialist Party, and you don’t compromise with socialists because they are not going to give you anything. The Tea Party is for fiscal responsibility, constitutionally limited government, and free markets. Oh, I see why you want us to compromise, that’s just the opposite of what you believe!
Never negotiate with terrorists or Marxists.
Any concession you give to them will come back and do you great harm.
Most recently, I reference the economic collapse caused by the Democrats’ idiotic Marxist subprime housing mortgage underwriting program that collapsed our economy in 2008 after 2 years of oversight by the Democrats (Dodd and Frank).
Here is a link to a Wall Street Journal article giving to you the quotes from Democrats negotiating for no effective oversight of the very institutions that collapsed our economy.
http://online.wsj.com/article/SB122290574391296381.html
Coincidentally, after the Republicans gave to the Democrats what they wanted, no effective oversight of their Marxist subprime housing loan program, the Democrats supported the war in Iraq. It was a negotiated agreement between Republicans anda Democrats.
Well, lo, and behold, it wasn’t long before the Democrats jerked that support away and pretended it never happened. Then, the concessions the Republicans gave to them were used to blow a hole into the keel of our economy.
And, the country was duped into believing it was all Bush’s fault. After the full weight of the so-called “mainstream” media indoctrinating the entire population with this ludicrous notion, they could get only 54 percent of the population to accept that notioin. That is markedly down from the results of their brainwashing the population with a system of lies about the evil United States during the Cold War, when they were able to program about 90 percent of the population into giving the notion that the United States was the evil in the world and defeated.
Reagan changed all of that.
Never negotiate with terrorists or Marxists. No good will come from any agreement with them. Anything you concede to them will only be used by them to achieve their ultimate goal, the destruction of our capitalist system and our constitutional way of life.
Ron Paul did not start the Tea Party movement. He attended an annual celebration in Boston in 2007 that included recognition of the original Tea Party act and all those who stood up to tyranny. It is amazing how people continue to hold to that myth that Ron Paul started the Tea Party movement.
Rand Paul however has done his father great honor however by being one Senator who openly has tried to address the out of control spending that this Nation’s government is stuck in.
The comment by Marianne Gasiecki above is right on. Probably because she and I were both at the Freshmen Orientation. However since the election I have tried to begin to adjust my beliefs about what will work from a conservative position. I did not want to compromise. The left did not want to compromise in 2009 and 2010. They shoved us to the back and began the process of destroying the Nation. I did not want to compromise with them either. It seemed to work.In a true conservative sort of way. Now I am not so sure. It looks like there may be a drastic change in how I view my ideal GOP should be.
Every pundit and columnist has been writing about how the election was lost. I advise that everyone pay attention to the TPP here and not have their tongues hanging out for all the rot talk. It is time to get directly involved in a local chapter or start one of your own and make the real difference. Ground Troops are what impresses our local, county and state elected officials. Time for everyone to be a part of the TPP ground troops and kitchen table lobbyists.
Jim, the biggest problem our population faces is astounding ignorance. I know it’s been indoctrinated into the American logic that things like Marxism doesn’t exist. However, those that have been led to concluding this without any justification cannot even define Marxism.
I happen to be well-studied on the subject.
The Democrats are instituting ideas taken almost verbatim from Das Kapital. Yet, the population is ignorant to the catastrophic effect that has been evident in every country that allowed Marxism to infect its government in history.
It is ironic that the most significant event in the past century was the Cold War, a war between capitalism and Marxist communism with the United States being the dominant capitalist participant, and after defeating Marxist communism in the most significant event of the last centure the vast majority of the population can’t even define Marxism.
Never negotiate with Marxists. Hold to the Constitution. Any concession you give to them will only come back to us and do us great harm. Their only goal is to eliminate the current capitalist system and replace it with Marxist communism, of course exempting themselves from Marxist requirements.
If the explosion in the number of people becoming dependent upon the state and everyone working and progressing in the economy isn’t enough, they are now floating the idea of confiscating acquired assets to expand and support their Marxist programs.
Anyone would know this is not a permenant condition. There is a finite amount of assets to be seized, and once all the assets are seized they have to look for other sources of revenue to continue paying for their government-based system.
Hold firm. Don’t negotiate away the Constitution.
… and get rid of that part of the NDAA that goves Obama the very obviously unconstitutional authority to detain any American citizen within the borders of the United States at his whim without having to file any criminal charges.
That is so blatantly unconstitutional and un-American, it should make any American, especially someone in our government who swore to uphold and defend the Constitution, physically sick to know it is actually the law here.
Americans haven’t been anyone’s subjects for two hundred and thirty two years… until December 31, 2011. Today, the president has the exact same authority as any dictator the world has ever seen, the same as any medieval lord, and the American citizens are no more than peasant serfs bound to the land.
Its time we in the Tea Party realize that while the Republican Party was the lessor of two evils in the last election, the party leadership is just as “non-conservative” as the Democrats. The post-election blame game they have played, along with the willingness to compromise conservative values, prove that they are more interested in their political careers then standing by a set of core principles. They seem to have no core at all.
Therefore, the time has clearly come for the Tea Party to seperate from the Republican Party. The Dems will gloat and say this means they will retain power for the foreseeable future. The Republican estasblishment will cry foul and insist that we cannot split the party because it will mean the Democrats will retain power for the foreseeable future. But, if we don’t seperate, the Republican’s in office will compromise everything that is important to us as conservatives, and whether the Democrats retain power will not matter, the result will be the same; the principles and values we hold as our core principles will be lost.
So, we can stand with a party that does not share our values and stand by as that party trades them away so they can stay in office, or we can stand on our own, stand for our values, and our principles and fight for what we believe in. If those values and principles are truly our core beliefs, how can we not fight for them.
The Republican Party has turned its back on conservatism and no longer represents us. The Republican leadership made its choice, and left conservatives, conservatives did not choose to be left behind. The Tea Party must rise and defend our values, and leave the Republican Party to history as another party that has lost its way.
If the Republican leadership in the House doesn’t change, we will continue to have our Constitution sold down the river.
If the Republican Party insists on keeping Boehner as Speaker, then we split the party. Turn control over to the Democrats, then go after the House in the mid-term elections.
No doubt the Democrats will loan to the Republicans their voter fraud machine in an attempt to maintain the presence of RINOs that will concede everything to the Democrats. That’s just something we will have to contend with until we get into a position where we can put those people in prison.
Paul ryan should be the next Speaker of the House.
Mark Rubio should be the next Minority Leader in the Senate.
Or, we split the party.
Completely agree. We loose nothing now by splitting away and establishing the Tea Party as a separate party. The Tea Party would likely overtake the Republican Party in state races and in the House within two election cycles.
