Will the President’s Health Care Law Survive Under a President Romney?
September 10, 2012 at 11:54 am in News, ObamaCare by Tea Party Patriots 38 Comments

Since March 2010, getting rid of the President’s health care law has been one of the most important goals of the Tea Party. It dominated the Republican Party’s presidential primary, and was a major factor in the record 2010 elections. Unfortunately, on Sunday, GOP Presidential nominee Mitt Romney appeared to support leaving parts of the law intact:
“I’m not getting rid of all of health care reform. Of course there are a number of things that I like in health care reform that I’m going to put in place,” he said on NBC’s “Meet The Press. “One is to make sure that those with pre-existing conditions can get coverage. Two is to assure that the marketplace allows for individuals to have policies that cover their family up to whatever age they might like.”
And later, in discussing repealing these same two provisions:
“Well, of course not. I say we’re going to replace Obamacare. And I’m replacing it with my own plan. And even in Massachusetts when I was governor, our plan there deals with pre-existing conditions and with young people.”
Romney’s language is critical; in the past he has been largely consistent on saying he wants a full repeal of the health care law, and in the citations above (and in the relevant clip of his interview with David Gregory, seen here) he never says he is going to keep the health care law intact. “I’m not getting rid of all health care reform” can be interpreted two ways – the first, that he is going to keep parts of the Affordable Care Act. The other is that he is going to eliminate the entire law but not get rid of the entire idea of health care reform, and as part of his own plan he would reinstate the two provisions he spoke of.
The distinction is critical, and so Tea Party Patriots requests that Romney clarify exactly what he meant. Overturning the health care law, which violates so many traditional American rights and has a major impact on the national debt, is one of the first and foremost goals of grassroots activists across the country. In this, an important election year, all candidates for federal office should inform the voters where they stand on full repeal of the Affordable Care Act.

It doesn’t matter who wins the election, either candidate is going to bring us nationalized healthcare because that’s part of the uber elites plan…they’re a bunch of control freaks..
George… take off your tin foil hat.
Keeping any of Obamacare is wrong. And twisting one’s words and being vague is as wrong for one candidate as it is for the one in office.
I thought I heard Mr. Romney say at a “debate”, ” First day in office, Obamacare will be repealed?????!!!!!!!” Those were the words. He was facing having to defend his Romneycare so he made this declaration. So now, WHAT?????????
For God & Country
I heard the same speech you did!!! Agree 100%
And what he just said doesn’t violate that.
He can still repeal the law and the replacement law could still have some things that existed previously, so what?
It would still be repealed and a true debate can begin.
Also, I thought I heard Romney say that “it’s up to the state not federal govt for health care” that was his excuse all during the primaries. This is why nobody liked him. I wanted Santorum, newt, Cain Mitt was my last choice. My gut instinct was right. Im so disappointed.
Well, if you are disappointed with Mittens, sit this election out.
I completely agree with you. That healthcare bill is a disaster of huge proportion and should be fully repealed. If Romney wants to address pre-existing condition issues, then WRITE A NEW BILL. Preferably a new bill will be READ in advance, be shorter and not so onerous.
Personally, I want the government out of the healthcare business altogether. I want them out of Medicare in the long haul, too. I simply do not believe in national healthcare – it astonishes me (well not really these days) to hear a woman on the left decry the government’s interference with her body when talking about abortion, yet embraces the government being all over her with obamacare and the likes of TSA.
I Head Romney say he want to repel Obama care myself
And what he just said doesn’t violate that.
He can still repeal the law and the replacement law could still have some things that existed previously, so what?
It would still be repealed and a true debate can begin.
Exactly!!!
You are absolutly correct we need the specifics of Romney’s plan. He needs to stop the poltics on Health care.
Obamacare, Romneycare, Medicare, all are just battles in this war on our constitutional freedoms that are daily being taken from us. Until We the People and The States take a stand and repeal the 16th and 17th amendments our freedoms will only to continue to disappear.
Don’t be stupid. He is talking about keeping the two areas that are most likely to be mentioned as popular. Let it be. In the same conversation he said he is going to do away with control areas that intimidate and keep businesses from hiring and that is what we really need. That was also NOT part of the plan in Mass. if I understand. PLEASE do not work to divide the party. It is going to be with a prayer and by the skin of our teeth if O is defeated and we need that badly.
O”Dumacare needs to be gutted, this was not what the people wanted.Congress do hear us,ya’ll be listen because your jobs are on the line too.Leave our health care alone ,if your programs are so great, then the White House,The Senate & The Congress, should be the first to sign up.
Speak for yourself you Southern simpleton. I want Obamacare because as a Californian, I am tired of paying through the nose to support you deadbeat red staters.
Romney was not my choice to start with but anybody is better than OBummer. That being said I believe that if Romney had been saying this from the get go there might be a different nominee. He won the nomination on a platform that stated he would repeal all of the healthcare bill. He got the nomination on that and that is what he should be sticking to. I am very disappointed in that statement. NOTE I WILL STILL VOTE for HIM since I have no other choice. Just mad that we have been duked again by a politician.
You haven’t been duped…what he just said doesn’t violate what he previously said.
He can still repeal the law and the replacement law could still have some things that existed previously, so what?
It would still be repealed and a true debate can begin.
He has always said repeal and replace. I agree that pre-existing conditions have to be addressed as I am one as well as my daughter who have been refused coverage. So there are some good things that can be addressed. However, it must not be an onerous package like currently exists. It is bad to knee jerk in either direction. I agree, I want to see more specifics, especially keeping the Feds out of my pocket and life as much as possible.
Has anyone heard about that new movie Blood Bodies and Oil, it blames France and Germany for the Iraq war?
It also accuses Obama and the Dems of being Euro Socialists losers. I saw the trailer should I buy the movie and play it for my Lib friends? It gets lonely being a real Conservative amongst a bunch of pan handling liberal friends!
Hadn’t heard of that movie – I will be on the lookout for it. Thanks for the tip.
I would much rather be a Euro socialist loser than a mouth-breathing, Southern, inbred idiot who votes against his own interests to enrich the Oligarchy.
It may sound great to force insurance companies to cover pre-exisitng conditions. But in a free market, where goods and services are exchanged VOLUNTARILY, force has no place. And remember, insurance companies are businesses who are entitled to making a profit. If they are forced to pay for more things, they must pass that on to their policy holders in the form of higher premiums. I guaranty you that once that happens, health insurance will be too expensive for some people to purchase. Less people buying health insurance translates to less insurance companies. Less insurance companies means less competition. Less competition means even higher premiums. Eventually, you will hear the cry for the government to step in and provide “affordable health insurance.” Once that happens, it will only be a matter of time before private insurance companies will no longer be able to compete. They will close their doors and the government will now have a monopoly on health insurance and more control over our lives. That’s not my definition of a free country. I’d much rather have my freedom as it’s even more important to me than my health. I’d rather die a free man than live under the control of a government that’s getting more and more tyrannical.
Personally I think Ron Paul and his FLAT TAX, should be in office. It keeps it fair to all, we won’t get any money back after filing, but really, who cares!!! I am neither Rep. or Dem. I am for whatever will help get this country back to the glory it used to have. Our founding fathers are rolling over right now. We need someone in office who isn’t worried about the money they can make, but the debt our country is in. “Welcome to the United States of China?” I DONT THINK SO!!! Its time for people to wake up. Stop putting men/women in office who can be bought! Rise up!!! Use the voice our founding fathers made sure we have!!!
Personally I think Ron Paul needs to get out of single digits and win states…
If all the people ROn Paul supporters claim he has truly exist, why didn’t he easily win the nomination?
I hear them say how he’d win the general election in a landslide… yet he can’t win a state.. even the caucus’s…
I like Paul but dude.. move on… try again next year.
On June 6th Romney said he would Repeal. The Romney campaign website states that. Now Keeping preexisting conditions and age 26 requirement. Sounds like a walk back. Don’t Roof Rack Me Bro!
It’s not a walk back and what he just said doesn’t violate that.
He can still repeal the law and the replacement law could still have some things that existed previously, so what?
To think that SOME things wouldn’t be duplicated in a new health care legislation is crazy.
It would still be repealed and a true debate can begin.
Marc, I just made a comment before I read your post and I realized we really said the same thing. People need to stop doing this to Romney and criticizing him!! They need to get with the program just like the Ron Paul supporters need to do!!
This is a walk-back by Romney, another etchasketch moment from the quantum candidate, and there is no use for Romney Apologists to pretend otherwise.
If we actually had a conservative candidate we would mop the floor with Barry the Bungler, but, since we nominated a liberal to take on a liberal, guess what,
The liberal will win.
The Federal Leviathan has no Constitutional right to be involved in Nationalizing Healthcare, period. Repeal ObamaTax completely. 100%. Mitt Romney you flip-flopper, quit your lying about this! We must fire these abusers of our Constitutional limits on the size and scope of Government. None of this garbage is “legal” moral or affordable to a Leviathan with 200 trillion dollars ($200,000,000,000,000.00) in debt and unfunded mandates. Fire these sick and demented fiscal cannibals before they permanently destroy us all including the dimwitted hapless recipient leach class of bloodsuckers that are too short sighted and stupid not to kill the goose that layed the golden egg.
Wouldn’t it be nice to have a candidate who actually believes in free markets?
I believe that opponents of Obamacare are overreacting to Romney’s recent statements. I oppose Obamacare vehemently to clarify. Romney made it clear that there are parts of it like pre-existing conditions or keeping your child on your plan until 26, that he may keep. I think he has to try to appeal to those Americans and there are many of them, who think that those parts of Obamacare are good. I believe that he will repeal Obamacare and may keep those 2 elements in a new Health Care reform bill. I wish people would stop knocking Romney around. He is our only hope right now to defeat Obama and we all must get behind him 100% instead of asking dumb questions like whether he will repeal Obamacare. What are the options here? To get Obama re-elected or support the Republican candidate in any way we can. We need to stop hanging on every word that Romney mutters. Again, HE IS OUR ONLY HOPE RIGHT NOW!!
Congress Elissa, that’s where the Constitution places ALL legislative power (not to mention the power to impeach Presidents).
It seems to me that many of you talk alot about the constitution but fail to understand the foundations for the republican party. “…under the republic for which it stands, with liberty and justice for all.” Seems like we are angry with liberals or those fighting for justice for all. Our party is turning to more of liberty and justice for the elete, exclusive or selected few while leaving everyone else to take care of themselves. How is government too big when God says the governments are on his shoulders and gives government the power and authority to establish the laws in the land. Yes, there are some State level laws but there are times when the Federal Gov must inact laws for the UNITED STATES because its not about an exclusive group – some things are for EVERYBODY.
“Liberty and justice for all,” yes. Remember, however, that justice is blind (or at least it is supposed to be). And liberty must include the liberty to try and to fail. Justice that seeks to advantage some at the expense of others is no justice. Liberty that gives the right to government to take from some to give to others is not liberty, it is legalized theft. Charity given at the point of a gun is not charity.
Our Constitution created a government of specific, enumerated powers. The Founders, and the delegates to the state conventions that ratified the Constitution, did so with the explicit understanding it was that form of government they were creating. In order to make the idea even more explicit, they added the Ninth and Tenth Amendments as part of our Bill of Rights.
It is that version of understanding of the Constitution for which we contend, and that version of the Constitution we seek to return as the ultimate guide for the President, the Congress, and the courts. A willingness to return to that understanding of our Constitution is the only basis on which we can hope to right the ship of state.
Michael, I understand your perspective and I actually share your passion for the Constitution and its core values. The thing that I have struggled with is our parties failure to appear humane. While Obamacare appears to be a huge government oversight but it simulatenously expands coverage to everyone which drives down the personal debt which results in bankruptcy as well as stimulates the insurance companies portfolio b/c now they increase the number of accounts they hold. When we say things like pre-existing conditions should be banned – we sound inhumane. No one decides to get up and have a heart attack no more than someone decides to have breast cancer. To deny treatment or coverage is not justice to me.
I do not like the mandate for health insurance but I do not object when the state forces me to have car insurance even though I have never had an accident or the mortgage company requires me to have homeowners insurance even though I have no issues with my home. Is it fair to call the insurance company and say I had an accident this morning and I need coverage so cover me today and pay for my pre-existing condition? No – that’s why I do agree that we should have health insurance for everyone. When we object to it, we are saying we value our cars and homes over our bodies b/c we are fine with being required to have insurance for everything else but our person. As much as I love my party, it just defies common sense to me.
Sept 14th 2012. Paul Ryan ‘ We will repel ALL of Obama care’.
Okay so which is it you’re repelling some of it, none of it or all of it?
