Tea Party Patriots Honors the Military
August 29, 2012 at 6:29 pm in Blog, News by Tea Party Patriots 18 Comments

Yesterday, the Tea Party Patriots were honored to support our military men and women who have bravely served our country. Unfortunately, those men and women have been ill-served by President Obama. Whether one supports or opposes the conflicts in Iraq, Afghanistan, and Libya, the fact that is that this Administration has failed the troops as they continue to protect our freedoms.
We were proud to be joined by many supporters of our troops. Billy and Karen Vaughn, parents of a Navy Seal who died in service, spoke articulately and persuasively about the President’s failure to protect those in the military. Rep. Louie Gohmert (R-TX) spoke as well, pointing out that this President does not seem to understand the sacrifices made by service members.
The conversation wasn’t all negative – music was played, and bravery was recognized. Approximately 200 people were in attendance, all dedicated to making sure their federal government does its duty to those who did theirs to protect us.
Tea Party Patriots focus on limiting the size of the federal government, lowering spending, implementing effective tax reform, and other budget-centric areas of public policy concern. However, it is important that we never forget that we can have these arguments, discussions, debates, etc. – and vote how we think about them – because we have millions of service members willing to step up and raise their right hands. We owe them a debt of gratitude, one we can never repay.

I know you don’t mean this as an affront to those who served in the military before August 29, 2002, but if you don’t kindly remove that part of the sentence, then I must infer you are because you have.
Thank You!
Only from the last decade? so just the young photogenic ones then? not the thousands of homeless and or mentally ill veterans from all the other wars you guys started. that would be awkward at your teaparty?
I’m a cold war vet from the eightys and ninetys. Ten years active duty. Mr bush started this cluster of a war as did his father. WTF?
This is completely insulting, after serving 17 years deploying to both major theaters. The current president at least ended Iraq, and pays the bills. The current president has gone after terrorists in more countries than the tea party can pronounce correctly. It’s guys like Paul Ryan who disgust me, yeah sure he voted for war with Iraq but he also voted against the GI Bill and 9 other Veterans bills since 2003. So go ahead and wrap yourselves in the American flag and enjoy your punch, more typical tea party propaganda- more war less taxes. Tell you what – you broke it you buy it. If you vote for war then you support the troops by giving them every benefit they deserve to get trained, schooled and prepared ,either for the workforce in a slow economy or for more wars that you voted for.
- active duty
How has Obama failed the troops?? He’s increased our benefits, the conditions, withdrawn us from Iraq, approved the order to get rid of Bin Ladin, etc etc. Romney didn’t think it’s worth killing bin laden (then why’d we go into Afghanistan to begin with??) and Obama is setting up to pull out of Afghanistan. Romney couldn’t even stomach mentioning the troops there in his speach. This is so insulting to troops and thier families. It was such a slap in the face to my husband and son. Romney is a dangerously callous man and Ryan’s budget lacks basic arithmetic skills.
I can not believe that you think Obama has gone after anyone he has not been in his office enough days to do anything except make reservations for his next vacation.
I lived through the Viet Nam “Police Action”. I remember President Eisenhower speaking, and my Uncle talking about serving under George Patton. I also remember vets not being taken care of. I think this began with the American Revolution. Troops drafted from farms, not paid, and not taken care of.
It breaks my heart. My son just retired from the Army. He now has to fight to get benefits for injuries sustained. He lost comrades in Afghanistan, Iraq, Iran, and elsewhere.
Blame doesn’t go to any one President. Hell, this country has survived some of the most outrageous, incompetent, down right embarrassing men as President. If you want to solve a problem, look within not without. Each American has a job to do. Good luck getting them to do that job.
There was a time when going to war helped our economy, that is an economic truth. That time is done. There was a time when Americans stood up to be counted, they voted, and voiced an informed opinion. Those days seem to be dead as well.
As a military veteran and retired Veterans Administration Counselor, please help me to understand why all the members of the different Tea Parties are not livid over the Republican voter suppression laws. At last count, there were 11 states and 4 pending. Isn’t the Tea Party all about protecting the US constitution? Come on, show some backbone. Live up to your ideals. This is about as anti-US constitution as you can get!!!
Wholeheartedly agree. There were voteing problems in 2000 and 2004 and nobodys head rolled. They are no longer even trying to keep the illusion up. And we the people will allow the continued erosion of our fundamental rights. There is a lot of basic constitution shredding going on these days. We are obviously failing our schools because there is so limited understanding of basic economics, arithmatic, or even basic biology. Under Clinton we had surplus.
As a military veteran of two combat theaters and almost 30 years of service, I understand the need for additional time for servicemembers to have time to vote by absentee ballot. The only voter suppression that I know of has been the Obama campaigns effort ot stop Ohio from giving overseas combat veterans the additional time to vote in the election.
I cannot believe you bought into this lie. Now that the Federal court has shot down the Ohio voter suppression law, you should know that no one tried to suppress the military and veteran vote. The issue was just the opposite, the military voters were the only ones ALLOWED additional time to vote. They were disallowing citizens additional time by cutting days and hours. You must be getting your info from Faux News. As Roger Ailes, Faux CEO said, as I watched him on TV: “Fox News is not about politics, we are about ratings.”
Pay better attention to what is going on and you will learn the truth. You are being played like a cheap fiddle by mainstream Republicans. You should be totally ashamed of yourself.
As for the Obama admnistration, they approved the new GI Bill and have greatly increased the VA budget. Future plans are to cut the waste, fraud and abuse being perpetrated on the military budget. Remember, I was in the miltiary too. The incompetence and waste made me sick.
Now that Texas, Ohio and some of Florida’s voter suppression laws have been shot down, what is the Tea Party doing to stop the other 8 states that have voter suppression laws?
Actually in 2007 dh was given orders to ship out so quickly he wasn’t even able to get an absentee ballot.
No president in recent memory has done as much good for the troops as Obama has!
I don’t really know how Obama hasn’t helped US troops. We’re still spending loads of money on our military and he brought a lot of troops home. How come you guys (the news posters on TPP) always make blanket statements without citing or explanation.
‘Whether one supports or opposes the conflicts in Iraq, Afghanistan, and Libya, the fact that is that this Administration has failed the troops as they continue to protect our freedoms.’
How? You don’t explain why or link us to an explanation at all
‘Billy and Karen Vaughn, parents of a Navy Seal who died in service, spoke articulately and persuasively about the President’s failure to protect those in the military. Rep. Here, you could even provide quotes to show how ‘persuasively’ the Vaugns made their point, but you do not. I think yall would have a better time attracting people if you actually edited proper news posts.
Jlm7-quoting opinions of other people is not quoting a fact. A fact is something like this:http://atwar.blogs.nytimes.com/2011/11/21/president-obama-signs-veterans-tax-credit-bill/
Do you really think that Obama does nothing for the troops? So, I work at homeless shelter- do you know where lots of former vets end up? At homeless shelters, needing food stamps, general assistance, and social security. So, are you telling me Jlm7 that you don’t support efforts to hire vets? and that if vets do not get jobs there should be no safety net services for them?
Jlm7- stop supporting political efforts that support corporations. please stop. otherwise we will end up like 3rd World Countries without democracy, and I’m sure you don’t want that. Don’t let our government look like a corporate board room. for the sake of your family-don’t.
What part of anything I posted implied that I agreed with the article in part or entirety? I was merely making comments on how poorly the article was written.
