FREEDOM NEVER TASTED SO GOOD

It was a proud day for America! August 1, 2012, Americans from across the country gathered together to stand up for free speech and against the fascism of mayors and local governments wanting to ban businesses whose opinions differed from theirs.
I had planned for a couple weeks to attended the Chick-Fil-A appreciation day in support of our first amendment. I was not prepared for what I witnessed. My first trip of the day was for a late brunch. I arrived at a local Chick-Fil-A restaurant, with my 14-year-old daughter, and my breath was taken away by what I saw. The parking lot was packed with cars lined up around the block and into the side street waiting to get in. I had to park across the street, in a mall parking lot and walk to the restaurant. The line to order spilled out the door and down the sidewalk with over 150 people standing in line. It took about an hour of waiting to place my order and a little longer to get our food. The restaurant was packed with people standing shoulder to shoulder and the temperature outside was approaching 100 degrees, the restaurant was hot and uncomfortable. Despite the uncomfortable and crowded conditions, everyone was friendly and courteous, more like a family reunion!
A few hours later, I decided to go to another Chick-Fil-A location to pick up dinner for my family who had not been able to go earlier. It was approaching 4 PM, so I felt that it would be a great time to go since it was way after the lunch rush and too early for dinner. Imagine my surprise, when I pulled around the corner to find another long line out the door! I smiled and jumped back in line. Later in the evening, I went with a couple of moms and my church youth group for a snack! Again, my breath was taken away when I realized the lines were longer than they had been all day. As we were walking to the line the manager was placing orange cones to close the line as they would not be able to serve any more that day. We explained we were a youth group and we just wanted to show the kids what it means to have free speech. The manager smiled and motioned us in front of the orange cones. The entire line cheered for us. As the evening went on more and more people lined up on the other side of the orange cones. The manager was there telling them that they would not be served, yet the people stayed. These people stood in line for two hours because they believed in taking a stand for free speech. The meal was not important. One of the most exciting parts of the day was seeing these young teens truly understand what was happening.
Americans were not standing in line to protest anything. We were standing in line because we believe in America. We believe in freedom of speech. We will not accept fascist mayors, nor any government official, forcing or telling us what our values are!
August 1, 2012. Freedom never tasted so good.

Thanks for publishing this article. It gives me hope for the future as all I read usually makes me feel I am having so much shoved at me that is unpleasant. There are not so many mutations naturally produced as some would like us to believe and this causes some not so bright on basic issues to act in ways they ordinarily would. God bless us all

See, I don’t understand why it is that the left would like to look at this as an insult to their line of thinking. Personally, I could care less about one’s sexual preference or beliefs. If you stand for something, good for you! It is your RIGHT to do so! When I first heard or saw anything about this, my first thought was “Seriously, what is this world coming to?”
How is one man’s opinion going to be dragged out beyond all imaginable proportions, to the point where people choose to let it reflect on everyone else in that organization? Have people seriously become THAT naive? I am not for same sex unions being recognized, but that does not mean I hate the lot of them because of my position. Yet, that is exactly what people on the left have grown so accustomed to doing. If a white person kills a black person, it’s racist. Heck, if a brown person with a white last name (need any clarification???) kills a black person, it’s racist! If people of one race attack people of another race, it is considered a hate crime, but only if the race committing the crime is white!
The sad part is that this is all happening because of Political Correctness: a term I would consider a societal cancer. PCness has done nothing but cause us to go backwards. Yup, there has definitely been a fundamental transformation, one that has caused us to fall back about 40-50 years…not only from an economical standpoint, but also from an equality standpoint. The worst part of it all is that it’s not even the conservatives that are causing this all to happen! Yet, the left has looked for every possible way to blame us for it. Shooting in a movie theater, gotta be a conservative…white guy kills a black guy, DEFINITELY a conservative…cop (any race) pulls over a minority, conservative/racist for sure…get the point? I’m sure all of you are understanding of it.
So, the bigger question is: how do we get the left to stop being so intolerant of the views of others, and understand that an opinion or belief is not something that immediately translates to treatment or action based on those opinions?
On another note, I heard that the left’s boycott flopped…or at least paled in comparison to the appreciation day. That made me feel pretty good.
Well Put. There was a time we were all Americans. Now it seems that we are being divided into groups by PC. Never have I seen this country so divided or so full of hate. Congress is a joke and it scares me to see how they fuel the fire. We have to clean house.
Very well said!
It is my firm belief that the pitting of social classes against one another is a strategic move used by both Republicans and Democrats to court votes. To me it is a form of social engineering that borders on the incitement of riots between the social classes.
Example No. 1 Pitting the rich against the poor thereby creating a case for wealth re-distribution.
Example No. 2 Pitting the different ethnic communities (black, white, hispanic, etc) against one another thereby creating racial tensions and tipping the scales one way or the other and creating racial tensions.
Example No. 3 Pitting those that can work, but won’t, against those that do work, pay taxes, obey the law, and raise their children according to sound biblical principals and a healthy respect for other people’s rights and opinions, against each other thereby creating discontent against those that continue to soak up federal money all the while refusing to work and contribute something to this great country.
I site just three examples knowing full well that there are so many more and realizing that our society is on the slippery slope to downfall and ruin. It saddens me to no end feeling that no matter what I say or do (as a straight white male) concerning my stand against homosexual marriage, the repeal of Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell, or my views and opinions concerning the lazy, no good individuals whom refuse to work because they are conditioned from childhood to believe that the gov’t will pay them to have more children and more benefits while refusing to work, I would be labeled a racist, insensitive, slave holding pig, because I don’t agree. It’s all about the vote.
If you can get a social class to scream “injustice”, “intolerance”, “racial injustice”, the wrong type of people will take up the torch, and use that as a weapon against the rest of society (whom are actually the majority).
Let’s face it, it is very nearly a sin to announce to the world that you’re a christian, and an even bigger moral crime of claiming to be a conservative especially if you frequent this particular website.
We have a choice as a nation. That choice is:
1) Do we, as a nation, begin to put social class warfare aside, and build a nation of simple laws (as the United States used to be) or;
2) Do we, as individuals, continue to war against one another for the time being with just words, possibly escalating into violence and the creation of the 2nd Civil War that could permanently fracture this great nation.
In the end, it’s all about choice. Who wants to be an American? Pure and simple.
God Bless Texas, and God Bless the United States of America
You fat sacks of shyte in the Pee Party are welcome to yer Chick-Fil-A.
We’ll gladly take them – with pride!
You’re not smart at all, just plain GROSS. How sad to have you living in the U. S. A .
Move away to IRAN, YOU’LL LIKE IT THERE.
First to address Teaswiller,
Do you really believe stating such an offensive comment will make your views any stronger? I don’t really care if you are Liberal or Conservative; what cause are you helping?
Second,
The Left? What about the Right? It doesn’t matter which side you are on. Both sides are getting our country no where. Actually, it is the very fact that any person would call the opposing view the “Left” that our country cannot accomplish one goal. America is a place of freedom: freedom of thought, religion and decisions. The Tea Party likes to quote many famous and successful politicians; why wouldn’t they?
The issue is, they quote Thomas Jefferson and his “freedom of life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness”, yet they act in the opposite way. On this website, this story is a wonderful example. Yes, go support Chick-Fil-A and the money they earn to fight against gay marriage. But, wait, fight against gay marriage? I think Thomas Jefferson would be ashamed to see his quote representing a party that supports taking the pursuit of happiness away from people: homosexuals.
So yes, talk about how amazing it was to see all of the people supporting Chick-Fil-A. I am ashamed as an American that people would support a company that is funding anti-gay conventions or should I say anti-pursuit of happiness conventions. It is a wonderful world when people band together to strip rights of others.
It is even more wonderful to see the support of a religious movement on a Political Party’s website.
I must admit that I love the constitution and the Separation of Church and State.
What is more comical is that people are talking about Liberals and their lack of understanding. Do some research. Actually, take a high school government course and look at some statistics. It is the conservative viewpoint that seems to not understand. A liberal is a person who believes in other people and fights for the freedoms of other people. That is what a liberal is. Before anyone here uses that term, I hope you understand that a liberal does not mean a democrat. Liberals do vote republican. They tend to be the swing vote, because conservatives are very loyal to their beliefs and party. And that loyalty seems to be the downfall of the republican party: Blindness.
Democrats are not any better; they do not accomplish anything.
But before anyone here wants to make any statements regarding any political term, please research the term before you embarrass all of the educated, politically aware Americans. Being politically aware and willing to listen to both sides to make America better is Patriotism. That is True Patriotism
Look at these vile , fascist teabaggers!
Yet it seems clear that the only ones who were truly intolerant were the libs…go figure! People throughout the country came out in swaths to defend the First Ammendment, not to defend the Chick Fil A owner’s position. That is the thing you libs always do…you twist everything to make it possible to victimize yourselves. Why not move to France or something…I’m certain they will be more than happy to provide the pity party you are looking for.
What is bustagut laughable is that you are proud of the fact that you don’t know the difference between free speech and hate speech, which embarrasses the rest of us in the eyes of the rest of the sane world.
By the way, if your comment was completely out of sarcasm, sorry bout that…
Homosexuals lobby, intimidate, name call… to shove their agenda on us. However, if we stand up for marriage between a man and a woman they call it HATE speech. Give me a break! Marriage has always been between a man and a woman. I have yet to see two men or two women produce a child together (with no artificial means).
Homosexuals need to respect our first amendment rights and be honest. Claiming anyone that supports groups trying defending marriage between a man and a woman is a bigot or donates to hate groups is insane. As always the left just plays games such as the race card and vulgar language and vile insults to try to beat down anyone that does agree with them. Grow up, stop the lies and if you want to get alone in this world. Learn to be civil perhaps some anger management might help them learn to deal with life.
You homos, stop trying to force your thinking on the rest of us. . . .You’ll never find happiness and peace.
My wife and did our part and showed up for dinner at a mall Chick-Fil-A. The food court was filled with Chick-Fil-A bags despite the seven other restaurants in the court and the store itself had a line reching far out into the mall. We had a couple on one side of us talking with their parents who were visiting Chick-Fil-A’s in other states. We also saw many people around us saying prayers or blessing before eating. It’s been many years since I’ve seen people praying in public restaurants. Everyone was extremely kind and courteous to others, with couples offering extra seats at their table to strangers. These are rights we must stand and fight for!
very great stuff to hear. im glad to know that their are true americans out there who care and dont let ignorance get in the way of freedom. U.S.A
