Law of the Sea Treaty is Effectively Dead

Several weeks ago, as part of our weekly Passion to Action, we asked you to call Republican Senators and ask them to oppose the Law of the Sea Treaty (LOST). We had a great response to our call to action and yesterday the Daily Caller reported that our efforts had paid off.
Republican Sens. Kelly Ayotte of New Hampshire, Rob Portman of Ohio, Mike Johanns of Nebraska and Johnny Isakson of Georgia joined 30 other GOP members in agreeing to vote against the U.N. treaty.
A big “Thank You” to everyone who took part in our Passion to Action. When we all work together we can make a difference!
Thank you guys….object to any law that would weaken our independence as a nation!!
The Senate should pass NO LAWS that give away America’s right to govern it’s self or that take away it’s own Sovereignty.

According to the Vienna convention any treaty. Signed by Sec. Of State or President Is to be followed for 5 yrs if it is not voted on by the Senate. So as long as the vote never comes to the floor of the Senate for a vote we must honor the treaty.
It must be voted on, it must be voted down or we will have to follow it. Being dead in the Senate. Is not enough. It must be voted down.
David and Marilyn: Approved, or not, many countries fail to honor their treaty obligations. We are the strongest, most powerful country and whether we honor any treaty is up to the Pres,, subject to overrule by Congress, by 2/3 of the vote of both houses.
Correction, 2/3 of the Senate only, must approve. But the approval must actually be given. If the Senate does nothing, the treaty is not approved. See Article II, Section 2 of the Constitution.

Nonetheless, I am concerned about David’s comment that according to the Vienna convention,any treaty signed by the Secy of State or the President must be followed for 5 yrs. if not voted down by the Senate. Does this mean the Law of the Sea Treat is not effectively dead?
Glad to know there are still elected officials that want the USA to administer the affairs of the USA. It is imperative that we defeat Obama this fall or we’ll be dealing with more of this nonsense.
According to Article II, Section 2 of the United States Constitution, a treaty is in force “provided two thirds of the Senators present concur”, Thus, a treaty of any sort does not upon the United States until such time as the Senate produces the required vote.

Praise the Lord for stopping this disaster. It is not only to preserve our sovereignty but to avoid war. Can you imagine all the fighting going on among who will control this at the U.N? They have no good reason for this to take place. We do not need to be aggressively competing over land and resources through the force of a grossly absurd treaty coughed up to please a political party rather than unite others in peace.
The fact that fifty-eight Senators have signed on opposing the Treaty is irrelevant. If Harry Reid won’t bring it up on the floor, it won’t get a vote. And, in the absence of Senate disapproval or a renunciation by the president, the United States is bound by the Treaty under the provisions of the Vienna Convention which we have both signed and ratified.
Nor will the Second Amendment offer us any protection. The Supremacy Clause in our own Constitution provides that treaties are the “law of the land” akin to a constitutional provision.
The answer is to elect Romney or give the Republicans a majority in the senate (or better both). A Republican majority leader will certainly bring it up for a vote. President Romney would surely renounce the treaty upon taking office.
There is no way in which any other country or organization should be able to infringe upon the laws of the United States. We make our own laws and we have an iron clad constitution. The current president should be impeached because he has flaunted the fact that he will not uphold the laws of the land. In fact, for that very reason, he should not be able to be a candidate if he does not intend to abide by his oath of office. He has broken his own oath and has gotten away with it. Why?
Ovomit would love to be a global; dictator. He’s got a pretty good start with our country. Anyone who votes for him to reign a 2nd term should be deported to Ovomits homeland. KENYA!
So if someone disagrees with you they should be banished? I’m sure that is the perfect way to keep a democracy open for a fair debate.

I don’t think any of you understand what the Law of The Sea Treaty is suppose to do. The purpose of the law was to establish international guidelines for how nations were meant to handle and care for the resources of the ocean. Please if you have any love in me and truly believe in my message in love, peace, and community you will support this bill. If not, then I still forgive you and wish that you will still one day find inner peace and enlightenment.
Then why does control need to be handed over to someone else. Can’t they just come to the U.S. with their ideas for civil discourse and possible adherence / alternatives?
It seems plainly that our pretent to be president Barry Obama, being not a real American citizen, but maybe consider still a illegal alein. He, Barry Obama is putting our country borders in grave danger for off shore military attack from any country that want to try to take over our country. From clear understanding he has reduce our military tremendously like our navy is at state like that of 1930 strength back then.It seems he want to give our great nation up possibly to the greatest bidder unkown what country it may be to take over.

Do any of you think the US should get out of the UN? As far as I am aware the UN is a fairly unorganized and impotent organization that we throw a lot of our hard earned money to. And much of the money is squandered by the leaders of other nations, never really getting to the people of the country for which the money is supposed to help.
