We need to hold our Representatives and Senators accountable. Listen to Rep. Jim Himes say his voted didn’t contribute to Washington’s out-of-control overpsending.
While Congressmen and Senators are home this week for the Fourth of July vacation, we also need you to work this week to get your Congressman, 2 Senators, and any candidates for those offices on the record and on video answering 2 questions:
1) If elected or re-elected will this person vote to repeal this law COMPLETELY?
and
2) If elected or re-elected will this person vote to balance our budget in 5 years without raising taxes and stick to those spending levels for 5 years?
Congressman Himes answered the questions you wanted asked, and he should not have been shouted at or down. He sounds like a good and smart guy.
In his analysis of the deficits we face, he correctly said that the prescription drug benefit, Medicare Part D, was a significant contributing factor. It was passed by a Republican Congress in 2003 without funding. In 2006, the Congressional Budget Office put the cost of the benefit at $32 billion in 2006, and it projects that cumulative outlays through 2015 would be $797 billion (http://content.healthaffairs.org/content/26/6/1735.full). Fortunately, the Affordable Care Act has actually funded the prescription drug benefit and has several provisions in place, some of which have already been implemented, to reduce costs for seniors and close the “doughnut hole.” Otherwise, Medicare Part D will no longer represent a huge, unfunded drain on our budget.
Congressman Himes also noted that the stimulus, unlike the austerity policies implemented in European countries when faced with economic crisis, actually kept our unemployment figures much lower than those experienced in countries like the United Kingdom, Greece and Spain.
I like his reply on the question about jobs: that he would like to invest in infrastructure to improve our roads and transportation systems. This would definitely create jobs, and he cited historical examples to support his point of view.
I agree with the Congressman: it would be helpful if we base our political discussions on facts, not emotional talking points.

They want to penalize Natural Born citizens if the cant afford or don’t buy insurance yet the President says break our laws and I will give you Amnesty with BENEFITS for breaking our laws by coming in the back door instead of the front door in OUR COUNTRY and the money for you will come from the hard working struggling NATURAL BORN CITIZENS who have been paying their taxes – they DONT get free education – they DONT get anything FREE !!! This Obamacare and and the message sent out to those breaking the laws in our country is unconscionable !!!!!

Well Peter, as one who has worked around Mexican, and Latinos for several years, I’ll tell ya that several million ppl sending on average about 70% of their American dollars home is a very big problem that has yet to be addressed with a ” put stop to it” attitude. Its not that Mexicans are the only ones, it that they are the fastest rising nationality. The fastest rising nationality not paying paying taxes, sucking up the benefits, and not held to any standard of responsibility. Are we going to watch this country go down the drain before we tell, and show the world that you have to pull your own weight? We are steadily borrowing to give away for free. At some point we have to say ” Our fathers earned this, we support this. We will help any who are willing to help help them selves and work, and support our union. Those that can’t won’t, or don’t, simply aren’t welcome and we won’t pay thousands per person for months on end to send ya home” ( No matter where they are from)
Peter Franks needs to watch his language. I certainly understand his frustration and his
anger. But when one has the time and opportunity to post an opinion in response to what
another has done or said, then one should make and effort to choose one’s words more
carefully and try to be more eloquent in what one says. And if one is really that angry, then one should take the time to cool down and wait until a more rational response is possible. There should be no place here for infamous language. Also, I notice a great many comments are not proof-read before posting. The poor syntax, spelling and punctuation tends to make the comments appear to have come from a seriously uneducated source. That’s a sign of anger and haste – which never makes for a good combination. Cool down. Think about what is to be said. Organize the thoughts. And by all means . . . proof read before posting. Readers will take what is said far more seriously that way.

Judy, you’re mistaken in saying that the new policy offers amnesty to illegals. It doesn’t. It just provides a possibility that, after case-by-case review, the Department of Homeland Security will defer action on deporting certain undocumented aliens if they:
“1. Came to the United States under the age of sixteen;
2. Have continuously resided in the United States for a least five years preceding the date of this memorandum and are present in the United States on the date of this memorandum;
3. Are currently in school, have graduated from high school, have obtained a general education development certificate, or are honorably discharged veterans of the Coast Guard or Armed Forces of the United States;
4. Have not been convicted of a felony offense, a significant misdemeanor offense, multiple misdemeanor offenses, or otherwise pose a threat to national security or public safety;
5. Are not above the age of thirty.”
The directive also specifies that ” DHS cannot provide any assurance that all such requests will be granted. The use of prosecutorial discretion confers no substantive right, immigration status, or pathway to citizenship. Only the Congress, acting through its legislative authority, can confer these rights.”

My hope and suggestion to everyone is that they take rage about being dumped on and turn this energy into positive action and get busy for the next few months. A one major objective is to NETWORK everyone you know and meet during your busy day. Ask them how they feel about what is going on and suggest and encourage they to VOTE this November.
Also, there are many things that we all can do. For example get some bumper stickers on your car and get some signs for your yard. This is a fun way to protest and get the message out. Further, make calls and send letters to your elected officals. Make you voice heard. They do not fear you because they do not hear from you. I do not mean fear as affraid, I mean “respect”. Balance what budget? Not only can’t our government operate within a budget, now they can’t even draft one. Leaving us to bicker on whose fault that is. Our Governemnt is out of control. How do we get it back under some sort of control? More agencies? 90% of it’s funders, have no idea where their money is going. The other 10% does, because it’s most likely going to them in some form. Stop the money…..stop the madness. Why can’t we all be told where our money is going, how much, to whom and who is accountable. Then we can judge for ourselves what’s working and what is not. What is waisted and what is not. What is legal and what is not.??? Asking our out of control goverment to self-govern themselves…..yeah right…how’s that been working out. Send more representatives….yeah that’s working. Sort of like the “how to serve man”.

I think the t party should change their ideas for America, and go after all the rep we have who are collecting more retirement in a month then any of us will receive in a life time. they have their own retirement and we have to rely on S.S. Which u do not approve of in the first place, what do u expect to live on when u hit that magic age? Well check out your rep. Dem and Repubs. They also have their own Insurance, check it out and see why we can’t have what they have. U should be checkin all their benefits and start workin on thoes issues. Plus all the other things they get by with,again Dem and Repubs. They some times start a project and become tired of it and after spending millions just abandon it. If u get rid of all they have given themselves we can probably afford S.S., insurance, and a whole lot of things. This kind of spending is what u should be protesting.
Your second question is a JOKE. The budget be balanced with NO MORE TAXES? Again, as long as the sacrifice is burdened by others, the Tea Party is all for it. I’m guessing that defense spending couldn’t be touched either? And don’t go near Social Security. Do you know who still holds more clout than a Tea Party?
