Congressman Dicks concedes Obamacare hurts Democrats
July 10, 2012 at 1:30 am in Accountability, GAN, Norman D. Dicks, ObamaCare, Patty Murray by Larry 38 Comments

“It did hurt us, there’s no doubt about it. The climate out there was really ugly because of it.”
Representative Norm Dicks (D-WA) who is retiring at the end of this Congress admits the damage Obamacare has done to his party’s image. However, other Washington state representatives continue to say Obama’s tax increase does more good than harm.
Washington State Senator Patty Murray said in her recent Newsletter, “Last week, the Supreme Court upheld the Affordable Care Act. This is a victory for the health care security and stability of Washington families. The ruling means that families and small business owners will continue to benefit from better access, more choices, and a health care system that no longer works only for those who can afford it.”
The American Healthcare Education Coalition disagrees, saying, “The SCOTUS decision was no victory for freedom or democracy.” In an article for the Blog Prescription for Disaster, Chris Jaarda said, “The bottom line is that government’s power to coerce each of us has not been curbed at all. The proof: the individual mandate still stands. Robert’s opinion imposes no outward limit on Congress’ power of coercion or compulsion through taxation (even though the 16th Amendment contains such limits). Congress doesn’t even have to call future taxes, “taxes” when compelling action – the Court will uphold them anyway. Congress can now tax us if we don’t do what they say…. The sum of Roberts’ decision is this, ‘People are free to do what they want but Congress is free to tax the exercise of that free will.’ In effect, Roberts has used the Constitution to create a “Freedom Tax”. That is not something to celebrate – it is a blow to the liberty of every American.”
Doug Cloud, GOP Candidate for Washington State’s 6th Congressional District, encourages voters to stay engaged after the SCOTUS ruling. “Today the Supreme Court decided that Obama-care as a whole is constitutional. This is a dangerous precedent that allows the federal government to compel human behavior without limit. By stating that it is unconstitutional for the government to compel a person to an action but it is constitutional to tax that person if they do not perform that action; the Supreme Court has demonstrated a deep contempt for the concept of individual liberty. Today’s ruling continues the unabated assault by the federal government on the individual, and the control of the way that they expend their time and energy. While I am disappointed by the Supreme Court’s decision, we must continue to keep moving forward because the fight for individual freedom will never be over… Obama-care is an unpopular piece of legislation, and it is now up to Congress to repeal it. There is no doubt that health care reform is desperately needed in America, but those changes cannot come through heavy taxation and bureaucracy. Consumers are better off when they have more choices and fewer mandates. The Supreme Court had its moment. It is the job of the American public now to elect principled representatives who will dedicate themselves to repealing this bill.”
From the Tea Party perspective, Tea Party Patriots National Support Team member Shelby Blakely said, “The Supreme Court ruled against the American people and failed to perform their most basic function, which is to measure legislation against the yardstick of the Constitution. Members of over 3000 Tea Party groups across the country will continue working to repeal Obama’s trillion dollar tax increase and hold responsible members of congress who voted for it.”

ObamaCare hurts Democrats? They are as narcissistic as their president. What about the American people? It will literally KILL us. Check out this survey which says that 83% of doctors are considering leaving medicine because of DictatorObamaCare. http://www.wnd.com/2012/07/83-of-doctors-considered-quitting-over-obamacare/?cat_orig=health
One of the reasons that doctors and certain other professions make more money than average is that the have a higher IQ that the average which allows them to go into professions like law, engineering, medicine, etc. that are not open to people of average intelligence because they cannot master the content required to perform in that profession. This is just a reality of life, nature makes the call as some people are just better able and more motivated to learn than others. A doctor can become a lawyer because they have the intelligence to do that profession as well as medicine. They are not assigned the role of doctor that was just their greater interest, the point being doctors have options for other professions not available to most people and will not struggle in futility against a corrupt government when they can retrain to design skyscrapers.
If only a third of that 83% actually quit medicine people are going to die for the first time in the US in almost a century due to lack of medical care. Nice going little dictator.
If ObamaCare is such a sweet deal why did the Democrats in Congress who voted for this almost unilaterally, exempt themselves from this law. That is what rulers do, not representatives and the Constitution does not provide for rulers. The Democrat Party and their Communist membership own this steaming pile from the ground up. ALL of the damage it does to Americans and the bloodshed to follow is on their hands.
i am against the affordable care act is unconstitional to many hidden agendas that people are not aware of
This is America. Speak English.
he was speaking English. If you don’t understand what he is talking about here is a hint the OBAMACARE is a 500 page bill! and in those 500 pages there is a bunch of stuff that is in there that people like you dont know about like it covers abortion (the killing of unborn children) etc
hey tiffany…abortion is legal in the usa . why are you trying to control another person rights to the law? you patriots always want freedom and liberty as long it conforms to your ideology.. well you tearepublicans will not succeed in destroying the true freedom on which the real patriots and founding fathers gave to this country..you present day tea party patriots are just a bunch of fools
Jose, You miss the point. You cannot make sin moral by legalizing it and we certainly should not take tax money from people that believe it is a sin against God to kill unborn babies and use their money to pay for those killings.
For a libtard like you to compare himself to the founding fathers is laughable. You morons have absolutely nothing in common with the founders, you are, in fact, diametrically opposed to the founding principals of America.
The filth you call ideology we call un-American and we WILL succeed in destroying you. You confiscate money from people who don’t believe abortion is moral to pay for your murderous policies then look down your nose with sanctimonious contempt at the people paying the bill. You scum have murdered more children than Hitler, almost as many as your patron saint Mao and you think you have the high ground here? Guess again dirtbag. One day soon the streets will run red with the blood of you Marxist slave masters and the world will be a better place.
If you don’t like what I’m saying you are free to leave troll. Go worship your two bit dictator president while you still can. You are not welcome here.
peter franks; you are too funny. I almost think that you are a fellow liberal who just trolls on these boards to make the Tea Party “patriots” look even more ridiculous than they already are.
P.S., how is your armed “putsch” against the U.S. government going my little brown shirt pal?
liberals are not TRUE patriots. Patriots believe in the principles of the constitution and the founding fathers believed in the Holy BIBLE and GOD! and GOD is not an Idol
“liberals are not TRUE patriots. Patriots believe in the principles of the constitution and the founding fathers believed in the Holy BIBLE and GOD! and GOD is not an Idol”
Speak for yourself Tiff; your definition of a “patriot” is my definition of a paranoid, uneducated, right-wing, religious nutcase freakball. The founding fathers were Deists, by the way, something that you Fundamentalists would likely not consider to be Christian at all. Look it up.
Tiffany, if you are so against abortion, what are you doing for the millions of babies which will be born, unwanted, unloved, abused and trafficked as sex slaves? Do you plan to adopt the 4.8 babies per capita that are aborted each year, because of rape, incest, drug abuse, or are just not wanted? Do you have a social program in mind to keep, feed, house, educate and offer some hope of a life to the unwanted? How do you propose to pay for it? I can’t afford to pay for the little bastards. They will only add to the social burden exponentially. christians and other similar fools chirp about what their “god” wants, and how we must do it, or else! Let Her pay for it!
Teaswiller, so the Founding Fathers were Deists, were they? Perhaps YOU are the one who had better “look it up”. And try using some other reference than Wikipedia or a Progressive rag. Why don’t you try looking up the letters of the Founders themselves? The very Declaration of Independence finishes with these words…”And for the support of this Declaration, with a firm reliance on the protection of Divine Providence, we mutually pledge to each other our Lives, our Fortunes, and our sacred Honor.” Divine Providence…does that sound like the language of people who believe God just wound thiings up and went away on vacation? Does that sound like people who don’t pray because, after all, what would be the point? You really need to learn your history. Most of them…not all, but most…were Christians in every sense of the word.
Why you’re busy just “trolling on these boards to make the Tea Party “patriots” look even more ridiculous than they already are”, the states continue to turn red. The remaining blue states are swimming in massive debt. The should lose 3 electoral votes for every $1 mil of debt and lose the right to affect national elections that impact everyone.
Of the 49 counties in Washington, only 5 vote Democrat, and yet they control the voice of the state. Because of the extreme left in the Seattle area, it remains Socialist MOB RULE.
Pike, Unfortunately, you make a very valid point. To add frosting on the cake, there is also the distinct possibility of voter fraud in King County that helps the leftists and a media that leans so far to the left it is a wonder they don capsize. Evangelical Christians could turn things around if they weren’t so brainwashed with the false idea that religion should not mix with politics. They have bought into the misconception that “separation of church and state” means they have to be quiet about moral issues in the public square. TAINT SO! Every time some Bible denier takes a stand against a Judeao-Christian value, all Bible believers should speak out just as loudly in favor of it.
Pike – your example can be extrapolated to the entire country. A small portion, less than 20% of the population, mostly concentrated in the urban areas, has seized control of the nation. They pay off other groups, like minorities, buying votes with your tax dollars to support them in their totalitarian bid to control the every day lives of Americans. They are evil, the antithesis of freedom and should be treated accordingly.
I am extremely hard on libtard trolls who visit this site and elsewhere in an attempt to start trouble and push around conservatives. For decades conservatives have acquiesced to liberal aggression and I will not allow it to continue. I will hammer them mercilessly at every turn because to compromise with evil is to commit evil. If others join me so much the better but I will continue alone if necessary. I recognize their evil and will stand against them everywhere I find them. All conservatives need to stand against them in a similar way. until they are destroyed.
The Center vs Periphery problem is a huge one, and it is one reason why the 17th Amendment has been so harmful to our republic. Voting machines are another huge problem as their secret software, and the fact your ‘vote’ only exists as a series of 0′s and 1′s is not confidence inspiring. We need to, at least, get a coded receipt for our votes that can be scanned on-site and later looked-up in a printed public record to insure the vote we cast was the vote that was counted.
The hateful and ignorant comments of those on the left bother all of us, but let us not be tempted to be reduced to name-calling and their other childish behaviors. We are the adults in the room and I hope we can all continue to behave that way;-)
From another site……
“When the Spanish online voting company SCYTL bought the largest vote processing corporation in the United States, it also acquired the means of manufacturing the outcome of the 2012 election. For SOE, the Tampa based corporation purchased by SCYTL in January, supplies the election software which records, counts, and reports the votes of Americans in 26 states 900 total jurisdictions across the nation.” The fact that the same company will have first count on all votes made in 14 US states and hundreds of jurisdictions in 12 others, and the stage is set for election fraud on a scale unimaginable just a decade ago. SCYTL self-proclaimed the security of its systems, but when the machines were used in the District of Columbia, the University of Michigan fight song “The Victors” was suddenly heard after the casting of each ballot. The system had been hacked by U of M computer teachers and students, in order to demonstrate their susceptibilities.
My stepson graduated from there two years ago, a Kennedy was the keynote speaker, blechh. But, they did good here….
Sorry! Old eyes, thought u of Michigan was u of Maryland.
He said Dumbo health care tax does more good then harm!!! Yea puts more of our hard earned money into the Gov pockets!! While we eat hotdogs and hamburgers they eat lobster and steaks!!
USA, The line about “does more good than harm” is actually a paraphrase of what most of the WA State Representatives (like Patty Murray) are continuing to say… Either they STILL have not read it and do not really know what it says or they are simply lying through their teeth. Bottom line – They all need to be replaced.
I agree. The problem is you cannot get rid of enough of them at one time to make a difference. Government is no longer the servant of the people, it is now the enemy of the people and needs to be overthrown and replaced what the founders originally intended, not what it has become.
Bring it Peter. Why don’t you blow yourself up somewhere and make a statement.
And ObamaNOTcare is eliminating Medicare! I’m amazed that so many people are so quiet. They think (they are no longer free to think) that whatever the government does is ok. Little do they realize that that bill was crammed down our throats without representation of about half the country. I watched the proceedings on TV. There was one more dem than the repubs so there was NO way the repubs could do anything.
It would be great that this forum refrains from calling people names and smearing them for their beliefs. With that said, I will be back everyday on this forum.
If you’re concerned about changes to Medicare under the Affordable Care Act, here’s a nonpartisan source that will be useful to you: http://www.kaiseredu.org/tutorials/Medicare-and-health-reform/player.html.
Here’s what Polifact.com, the nonpartisan fact-checker, says about how the ACA will affect Medicare:
“Some of the changes included in the health care law increase Medicare spending to improve benefits and coverage, said Tricia Neuman, who is vice president and director of the Medicare Policy Project at the Kaiser Family Foundation — a trusted independent source. For instance, the health care law adds $5 billion to help cover prevention services and $43 billion to help fill in a gap for enrollees purchasing prescription drugs through the Medicare Part D program (sometimes called the doughnut hole).
Other changes reduce the growth in Medicare spending to help the program operate more efficiently and help pay for coverage expansions to the uninsured in the underlying health reform legislation, Neuman said. And yet other provisions are designed to improve the delivery and quality of care….
[The] health care law does not take $500 billion out of the current Medicare budget. Rather, the bill attempts to slow the program’s future growth, curtailing just over $500 billion in future spending increases over the next 10 years.
In fact, Medicare spending will still increase.
The nonpartisan Congressional Budget Office projects Medicare spending will reach $929 billion in 2020, up from $499 billion in actual spending in 2009. So while the health care law reduces the amount of projected spending increases in Medicare, the law doesn’t cut Medicare.
Put simpler, Medicare’s budget will continue to grow — just at a smaller rate than had originally been projected.”

if you are a person who comes on to this website just to talk bad about the TEA PARTY PATRIOTS leave without saying a word
Why, the comment boards for the San Francisco Chronicle and the Los Angeles Times – two liberal newspapers in the liberal state of California – are infested with Tea Party know-nothings.
because people like you dont know what OBAMA is doing to this Country where as people who are conservative and people in the TEA PARTY PATRIOTS do know what is happening to this Country and it is frightening
Ah hah! Thanks for your help!
You’ve got to be the biggest disgrace to the Patriots, you know nothing, and it’s completely evident in your comments, learn more about what you’re speaking about before commenting again. Thank you.
That comment was to Tiffany Husak.
Lets look at California,Nancy Pelosi State, look at what her liberal ideas is doing to the State, already in the last week, 4 counties have filed bankruptcy, and the experts(who ever the hell they are) predict over half the state will file by years end. I’m a Demarcate .but I’m not a Pelosi or Obama Demarcate. Thats the problem with people, just because there’re a Dem or Rep. doesn’t mean they have to vote for that candidate because he’s a Dem or Rep.
Teaswiller is a TPP!! He is here playing devils advocate, and testing our resolve. He is helping us to solidify our thoughts, so don’t be offended by his comments, learn how to defend yourself by them. Thanks brother, you’re doing a fine job!!
IMHO, All that separates liberals from conservatives is thier capacity to adapt to the erosion of our freedoms. Reminds me of the little bird story. Nice and cozy in his own little pile of crap and as long as he doesn’t say anything, he’ll remain there. Me? I’d like things a little more predictable, than waiting for another warm pile of crap to drop. It amazes me as to what we as humans can learn to adapt to. But just because something is broken doesn’t mean that is the new reality and we should just adjust to it. That seems to be the liberal view. As TPP we fix it, and make it better than it was, and make sure it doesn’t get broken again. Now if we could just learn how to be proactive rather than reactive. Why don’t we subject our potential leaders, the ones we are considering for some of our highest levels of leadership, to psychological profile testing. That way we could evaluate thier potential to do harm to our nation or work for it’s success and benefit, prior to getting “stuck” with them for 4 years!! Might make peoples choice a bit more accurate, don’t you think?
As a tax Congress can repeal it with just 50 votes. If not a tax it will take 60 votes.
hail obama
i don’t see any difference
history repeating itself
Why are we all paying for Politicians Health Care. They get FREE health care even if they oppose Romney/Obama care. Why aren’t we, the Tea Partier’s doing more to stop the politicians free ride. Act now and demand that your candidate shows some integrity and pays for their own health care, just like they are asking everyone else too.
Lets get fired up everyone and demand they do the right thing!!!
Tom, Congress may get free healthcare, but it doesn’t mean they have to accept the care. Many members of Congress have said publicly they reject the care, and have private health insurance.
Obamacare is an unacceptable loss of freedom. As one of my friends states, “Suppose you are young and in good health and would like to just buy catastrophic health insurance. Too bad, it’s illegal. Suppose you don’t want health insurance at all, a perfectly reasonable proposition for a wealthy individual who hates bureaucratic paperwork. That’s not allowed. Maybe you are just an ornery risk-taker who doesn’t want insurance. That’s not allowed.”
I do not want government running my healthcare. I know what is best for me — not the government!
