Washington Plays While Citizens Pay

A recent article in the Washington Post highlighted the sad truth that many families are still suffering from 2008’s “Great Recession.” According to the article, this recession has “wiped out nearly two decades of Americans’ wealth” and middle-class American families have suffered the worst. Those struggling can barely, if at all, pay their bills. And Congress has only made matters worse; because the Washington politicians are busy playing Monopoly with Americans’ money.
American families are now making less money. The median income fell almost to $45,800 in 2010. And Americans have seen a staggering 39% drop in the net worth of families. The average net worth of families plummeted from $126,400 to $77,300, in just three years.
And while families are cutting their budgets to make ends meet, politicians in Washington keep overspending. Even worse, the politicians continue to posture and play games with the American economy, ignoring their own reckless overspending.
In an effort to help the economy, Congress created a “super committee” designed to cut spending and when that failed, it put spending limits in place. It has been less than a year since then and Congress has already voted to violate those spending limits and continue the overspending. How can these politicians debate spending priorities when the Senate has not passed a budget in over three years?
It is time for Washington to stop playing games and show some real leadership and stop overspending.

Being that rand paul supports rommney, puts the freedom and ron paul movement in political dismay, however, the tea party will become a third political party in the future anyways, so now is the time to lawfully declaire the tea party a ligitimate political party, that ron paul will switch over to, this will out smart the other parties and ron paul will win the election, who cares if people says we stole the election, this is some thing they would do anyhow, thats just politics……By meetnick…..give reply…don’t wait too long or the oppertunity will pass…..
I recommend an alternative philosophy that complements tea party thinking. Hermeticism ties the well fare of a nation to the spiritual well being of the individual, the utilitarian being more in line with free market systems.

Do not worry, let the Fed continue to spend out of it’s mind, sooner or latter they will be unable to print money, and because there will be no money to pay their expences or salery it will be very funny to see them come to work for free, and pay their own air fair.
Congress is in buisness to defend the constitution, as they continue to destroy it, soon
there will be no reason for them to come to work as there will be nothing to defend, it is the only body of workers who willingly work themselves out of a job. now that’s stupidity.
Money is a funny thing, every thing is compaired to it such as gold. If the U.S. and or E.U.
currency is backed by it’s promise, and they go bankrupt their promise to pay is compromised, most people think that gold will be safe. The fact is if those governments fail the price of gold will crash and become almost worthless. With what can you buy it ? For how much, there is nothing to buy it with as the price is fixed by two reasons, one of them is cash, and the other is the demand, when people go starving the last thing they will want is gold, as food, water, shelter, and medicen will be the grang prize, think about it.

I have talked to a lot of people in Government and different corporate entities, the theme is arrogence, they simply think when things get bad enough they will just move overseas, like China, However, what I have explained to them changed their minds, and it is this: In a different country you will be considered a traitor to your own people, they will not trust you also you will be a different person and will not ever fit in, nor will you or you family like to live in a place where the food, system, culture, veiws, and language are not understandable, in China you will be an outcast, and it is dangerous for Americans to live in most other countrys if the U.S. goes down for a number of obvious reasons…..by meetnick….awaiting a reply…
People think and worry about hyperinflation, the fact is hyperinflation will never happen as the chance for hyperinflation has already passed us by. I would of perferred hyperinflation to the latter. If the Federal Government declairs insolovency one has to know that the world reserve curency is the U.S. Federal Reserve note. It is backed by the U.S.’s promise to pay. If that promise is comprimised money becomes instantly worthless.
There will be no need to worry about any runs on banks nor the value of stock or to trade any thing on the exchance networks.Meaning the money in your bank account will be not worth getting out………..Think about that….by meetnick
Thanks meetnick, you are right on all three posts! I don’t want it to “happen” but we may not have a choice….jpmorrill
Meetnick, I agree with you except that I am more optimistic that we will be able to reverse course, fire the FED and all the bums who are not doing their jobs. But thinking along your lines, there’s at least one reason ordinary rich people should be as concerned as we are about what is happening in this country. (People who are power-mad are exempt from these ordinary concerns because megalomania makes one impractical.) When the American health care system is destroyed, there will be no Uncle Sam to finance research and find cures for whatever new diseases come on the scene. The world depends on America and if present trends continue, our country will not be do cutting edge research and there is no other nation able to take its place.
One way to begin to reverse course is reduce ALL the politions paycheck.
So here’s what I think – How do we pass an amendment to the constitution that says OUR government employees salaries cannot exceed the average american income – or to be more realistic doouble the average american income – this would make their income a max of about $90K a year? AND They only receive this income while they are in office. Jimmy Carter left office in 1881. We have paid him almost 10 million dollars since he left office! And yet we pay our military personnel a few thousand more than poverty level. The average american teacher makes about 46K a year and we cry about our children not receiving the education we are paying our taxes for. The average american nurse (RN) makes 62K a year and works long hard hours to get it. Why? Because the people who decide where my taxes go are the people who are benefiting from it!
Great post, Dawn. Very well said and I agree 100%.
Dawn, you left out – when they retire after 20 years in office, if they do their job “FOR THE PEOPLE” good enough to stay in office that long they only get 50% of their annual income in retirement. Like us that retired from the military got. Plus if they get a raise it is the same percent of the raise they give the military, about 2% a year, and is voted on by WE THE PEOPLE and not them. Did you hear about Scranton, PA voted to reduce the policemen, firemen and all public construction people are getting their pay cut to federal minimum wage $7.35? Read this – http://thinkprogress.org/economy/2012/07/08/512572/scranton-minimum-wage-workers/?mobile=nc
Have you read Buffets rules to fix government in 5 minutes. They are right on. It returns politicians back to being civil servants, I am surprised the Tea Party does not adopt Buffets rules.
I agree with you 100%. However, I also feel that all of our elected officials that represent “we the people” in Washington should be restricted in the amount of time that they serve in office. A four year term-maximum should be more than enough….then they go back to being everyday Americans. Our politicians are in office for so many years that people buy them to back their agenda forever. Our representatives should not have Medical and Pension benefits that are above what the average American people they represent have. I do not believe they would be so quick to make some of these laws if they had to live with the consequences themselves. How did they become better than the people they supposedly represent anyway?
They are monopolizing recreational amd commercial fishing aswell. big corp money is bulling up on the lil man more and more every day. All I have to say is: fuck walmart and whoever is in favor of nast farmed raised seafood of which has been raised overseas.
-thank you,
Brian
Great insight from http://www.calvin-coolidge.org (Speeches or Quotations):
“A government which lays taxes on the people not required by urgent public necessity and sound public policy is not a protector of liberty, but an instrument of tyranny. It condemns the citizen to servitude. One of the first signs of the breaking down of a free government is a disregard by the taxing power of the right of the people to their own property. It makes little difference whether such a condition is brought about through will of a dictator, through the power of a military force, or through the pressure of an organized minority. The result is the same. Unless the people can enjoy that reasonable security in the possession of their property, which is guaranteed in the Constitution, against unreasonable taxation, freedom is at an end. The common man is restrained and hampered in his ability to secure food and clothing and shelter. His wages are decreased, his hours are lengthened. Against the recurring tendency in this direction there must be interposed the constant effort of an informed electorate and of patriotic public servants. The importance of a constant reiteration of these principles cannot be overestimated.”

The average Americans opinion doesn’t matter anymore. Only those with money to back those opinions get a say. The tea party, and republicans have been trying to stall democrats from making headway. The super congress failed, so republicans doubled up on cuts for social services rather than to the original agreement of cutting defense. They only want office to be blood thirsty monsters bent on making the world their little prison. Start excepting that this world gas different values then the rascist bastards born in the 50s. We want to do whatever and whenever with whoever wherever. Stop holding the youth back. So fuck you tea party for ruining the 99% life.
Why are we paying for Politicians health care. We have a bunch of them opposed to Romney/Obama care who are having their own healthcare paid for by US!. Lets rally to stop this NOW. If you truly believe in the Tea Party, then demand that your candidate stop getting FREE healthcare and start paying for their own.
Greetings! We must require a substantial structural change. I propose the following Amendment:
Article of Amendment XXVIII. (Proposed)
Section 1. We the People, do recognize and declare that the advances in communications and technology have progressed and have been successfully implemented, so that a separate national legislature of Senators and Members of the House of Representatives of the national government is no longer required and no longer desired by the People, who desire to have ever more accessible and more accountable legislators and representatives of this Federal Republic located within their own States and Commonwealths. Therefore, Notwithstanding any other grant of power within this Constitution, the legislators heretofore identified as Senators and Members of the House of Representatives in the Constitution, shall no longer be elected in separate elections for such offices of the legislative branch of the national government; and the duties, powers, privileges and immunities granted to such Senators and Members of the House of Representatives in this Constitution, shall hereafter be assumed and performed by the legislators within their respective State Assemblies and the respective State Senates of the several States and several Commonwealths. The State and Commonwealth legislators shall be permitted to vote upon national legislation in proportion to the enumeration of their respective Numbers of the Populations of their respective several States and several Commonwealths. The legislators of the several States and several Commonwealths shall be permitted to vote upon national legislation through an existing, operational and available electronic information and data communications system of their own choosing, and such system may be serviced, repaired, replaced, and updated from time to time.
Upon ratification of this Article of Amendment to the Constitution, The United States in Congress assembled shall hereafter consist of the assembly, and such assembly includes, permits and encourages the use of technology to establish electronically assembled legislators located within their respective State Assemblies and their respective State Senates, whether or not these respective assemblies are simultaneous, with power to represent their respective several States and several Commonwealths.
Section 2. The United States Capitol building shall become a museum and ceremonial facility. Upon ratification of this Article of Amendment to the Constitution, The United States in Congress assembled shall have power to enact legislation to implement and enforce Section 2.
Section 3. This Article of Amendment shall not be construed to deny or disparage or limit in any manner the several States and the several Commonwealths in their powers and liberties and rights and representations and votes and a republican form of government.
U.S. Constitution: Article V.
The Congress, whenever two thirds of both Houses shall deem it necessary, shall propose Amendments to this Constitution, or, on the Application of the Legislatures of two thirds of the several States, shall call a Convention for proposing Amendments, which, in either Case, shall be valid to all Intents and Purposes, as Part of this Constitution, when ratified by the Legislatures of three fourths of the several States, or by Conventions in three fourths thereof, as the one or the other Mode of Ratification may be proposed by the Congress; Provided that no Amendment which may be made prior to the Year One thousand eight hundred and eight shall in any Manner affect the first and fourth Clauses in the Ninth Section of the first Article; and that no State, without its Consent, shall be deprived of its equal Suffrage in the Senate.
