When a store pulls a bait-and-switch, it’s called fraud. The store is likely to be prosecuted, pay hefty fines and will bend over backwards to cover up their bad behavior from the public.
But when the government does it, it’s called health care reform, they pay PR people millions to promote it, and we taxpayers foot the bill for the whole shebang. And pro-single-payer groups like Families USA go into contortions to somehow justify it, like they have today.
The individual insurance mandate and the massive expansion of Medicaid in the co-called “Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act” (PPACA) are the government version of bait-and-switch tactics. It’s like a store that advertises a phenomenal deal on large-screen televisions. But when you get to the store, you find out there aren’t any left because they only had 1 at the store at the start. Remember the saying, if it sounds too good to be true, then it probably is?
So to find out if the promise of instant access to care with the wave of the government wand is too good to be true, we decided to ask doctors – you know, the people who actually treat patients – what they think.
And did they give us earful in our survey called “The Future of Medicine: What’s Wrong, Who’s to Blame and What Will Fix It.”
Doctors clearly understand what Washington does not – being forced to pay for a piece of paper that says you have “insurance” or that being enrolled in Medicaid is no guarantee you’ll actually be able to get medical care.
Almost 3 out of 4 (72%) doctors say that the individual insurance mandate NOT improve access to actual medical care, despite the claims in a new report today from Families USA that would have us believe 200,000 people will die without that piece of paper.
“The major problem is the politicians equating health ‘insurance’ with ‘health care,” says a family doctor in the survey we conducted at the Doctor Patient Medical Association.

What the PPACA has done is increased patients’ access to a piece of paper – that says they are “covered” by insurance or “enrolled” in Medicaid or Medicare. But paper promises don’t translate to actual medical care when doctors can’t afford to see patients at the lowball payments, and patients have to jump through bureaucratic hoops set up by the government.
That’s particularly apparent when it comes to Medicaid.
Doctors say that a key government provision in the Affordable Care Act – the huge expansion of Medicaid enrollees – is likely to backfire, as almost half (49%) say they will stop accepting Medicaid patients.
Medicare draws even more complaints from the docs. Three-quarters (74%) say they will stop accepting new Medicare patients or leave it completely. Another 27% say they will start restricting services to their current Medicare patients. “I wish I could opt out completely,” writes one.
Surprisingly, it’s not just the lower payments that send them running. If you guessed “government meddling” (think IPAB) then you win.
If government would just get out of their way, more than HALF would be willing to treat some of those patients for free. “I want to focus on what is best for my patients and not what a government official deems cost effective…I would be willing to do charity care weekly for the poor and underinsured,” writes a family practitioner in Washington state.
Lowball payments in the government programs are easy to comprehend as a barrier to care, but what’s their beef with private insurance?
The doctors say that the private insurers also add tons of compliance time and costs. Remember – most doctors file your claims for you and wait months to get paid.
But they say the bottom line is that insurance companies are dictating medical care. And they expect PPACA to hand over ever more power to the insurance companies to ‘call the shots’ and micro-manage treatment through the power of the purse. “I spend 6-8 hours weekly trying to get insurance companies to cover most of the cost of medications that my patients need,” writes one psychiatrist.
Add up all of these “hassle factors” and doctors are ready to throw in the towel. A whopping 83% of the docs say all of this makes them think about quitting. And remember, we ALL lose our doc when one quits- even if we aren’t in Medicaid or Medicare.

This has got to be one of the worst editorials. No facts, lots of spin.
So, doctors are complaining that they aren’t making enough money. What a shock? Doctors say it takes too long to get paid from insurance companies. Another shock? So they are upset they don’t get paid enough or often. And who set up that brilliant system? Oh yes, the GOP who allowed it….you said it yourself:

And you all who didn’t want a public option thinks that going the other way is going to help this insurance company monopoly now that drives up perscription prices and medical costs to stratospheric numbers? One day, you’ll look back and realize like the rest of the world does now that health of the nation should never have a dollar value or population limit on it when so many other things can be changed first. Just depends on whose dollar your trying to squeeze.

There are facts supported by surveys, etc. that say the communist health care power grab law will not improve access to health care. Liberals are the ones who pushed insurance in the 60′s and 70′s, you are the reason we have these huge costs. In 1965 a visit to the doctor for two children cost $20.00. That was not a copay, that was the entire bill. Now your doctor changes a $20.00 copay and then bills your insurance company $450.00 for the additional cost. That is because the doctor must pay a staff to collect the money from the insurance company in a system that you liberals created. This information is not from a survey or research, I WITNESSED IT, then and now.

I am surprised that you are a nurse and lack common knowledge regarding Obama health care. Of course doctors are running scared they are losing their patients to the :death panels supplied by Bar-rack and Kathleen Sebulis. As of today, it is no longer considered health care but a tax. A tax that the IRS is lined up to collect. If you don’t pay the huge tax for minimal healthcare you can lose your personal property, such as home automobiles, etc.The taxes placed on doctors will be unreachable for many of them, for instance those who are new to the profession and have not yet built a patient list. Scores of doctors will have to close their doors because they cannot afford the high taxes plus paying their expenses to run an office, the personnel and maintaining an office.. Become more educated with facts before opening your mouth. With just your few words I can tell you are all up and in to Obama. Jim what you describe is called socialist medicine! It doesn’t work in other countries, what makes you think it would work here? I have been an RN for over 20 years, and I have taken care of many people from Canada because they couldn’t wait for treatment per their government run healthcare, you can’t wait for an MRI or a CT scan, for 6 months because the system is so clogged up. Many of them were fighting cancer, many would wait for months for the same cancer treatment we take for granted here. There is a reason that people from other countries think we are all rich, because half of their income goes to pay for government run healthcare. When has anything not been bogged down by red tape when ever the government has been involved? The answer is to go after the insurance companies as they get to deny people access who have pre-existing conditions, and although the government has mandated that they won’t be allowed to do that anymore, they neglected to mandate how much we the people would have to pay for it. As an agency nurse (which allowed me to be present for my sons sports, awards, etc.) I didn’t have insurance, and when I tried to purchase a healthcare plan, I found that with a pre-existing condition, even with huge co-pays, and deductibles I couldn’t afford the eight hundred dollar per month premium. Insurance companies have 2-3 lobbyist per elected official, our congress and senate is in their pockets right along with the pharmaceutical companies. We need a whole lot less government interference in our lives, not more.

The Physicians that are seeing patients now with Med-i-Cal(Medicaid) get paid a very small portion of what they submit. There practices are overwhelmingly busy already! Lets add another 500,000 people alone here in California you are going to have a nightmare!! Doctors go to school for ten years or more to become physicians you have the gall to complain because they want to make a decent living… Your a very sad individual.

J and L obviously have not read the bill or work in a Private Medical practice in Rural America. The only physicians I have met that agree with Obamacare are those who work in Urban Hospital settings and are paid by a Hospital or University. Despite the rhetoric of the left, Medical Clinics are small businesses that have employees, expenses, utilities and cost that have to be paid. So Ms Nurse, I guess you are going to donate your skills and services for free? Do you have a CLUE what it costs to get a Medical Practice afloat? How do you think Physicians pay for the supplies and equipment that YOU depend on to maintain your health. Yes, Cindy, you are right on. I live in a rural area and agree with your comments. I have a friend who is a doctor in a small town and part of a clinic. He and his wife recently built a house – after years of saving to do so – and he had a surgical suite built into his house. Why? Because he was afraid Obamacare would pass. I have a friend who moved here from the Ukraine and she begs people not to go the way of socialism and to wake up before we doom ourselves with te proposed healthcare promoted by Obama. If it’s so fabulous, why don’t he & Nancy & Harry jump on board?

It supports a theory I have about the coming civil war where the takers in the urban areas are aligned against the suppliers in rural America. The cities here will degenerate into the chaos that always accompanies communism by design which allows the dictator to increase his power by totalitarian tyranny. Your example of Canadian medicine failure is excellent. I knew a guy in Europe who needed a simple MRI, easily obtained in America within days, to diagnose a brain tumor. Their socialized medicine program there required him to wait 9 months for the MRI, he died as a result.

I Do not agree with AFP or the Tea Party if the Five Republicans in Robes strick Down Obamacare. Personally my 23 year old Daughter will go uninsured because even with a BA in engineering, most corporations are cutting back on health care benefits to enhance their bottom lines even more. Here is a list of negetive effects if Obamacare is struck down including over $1.5 Trillion deficit over 10 years according to the CBO.
1.Millions of Americans could lose access to preventive services, including cancer screenings, blood pressure tests, and flu shots.
2.Insurance companies could continue to deny coverage to as many as 129 million people with a pre-existing condition if they try to buy insurance on their own.
3.Young people will be kicked off their parents’ insurance when they turn 18 or graduate from college, instead of being covered until they are 26.
4.Americans who fall into the Medicare “doughnut hole” would lose crucial discounts on prescriptions.
5.Insurance companies could go back to spending as much as 40% of premiums on administrative overhead like CEO salaries(some as high as $40 Million) and marketing.

The Republicans want to rewrite the bill and include all the things you mentioned, but change the way it is funded. Do you want trillions of dollars taken out of Medicare so that it can be spent on people who don’t want to work? I have every sympathy and desire to help those who can’t find work or can’t work, but I know plenty of 30-somethings who have mobile services out the yahoo, premium cable, coffee shop lattes, sports bar drinks & food and whine that they shouldn’t have to work at a job they don’t like just so they can get benefits. Sorry to say, it is against the law for a person 65 or older not to have Medicare, if they want health insurance coverage. With Affordable Care, it will be illegal for anyone to pay a doctor directly for services, so if the government panel decides the treatment is not necessary or not covered, there will be no way to get it.
A government that can control everyone’s health care is a government that can kill you if they so desire. Best Practices will do for medicine what it has done for education: make it malpractice to do what the patient and physician agree is best in their situation.

It’s not insurance. It’s a tax.
For those looking to other Countries for examples on Health Care don’t review per capita spend but Standard of Care “Medically acceptable wait times” – the amount of time you wait before being taken care of.
In Canada the standard wait time for say a colon screening should be 2-6 months and are, in practice, 8 – 26 weeks. In Scotland ER wait times could exceed 24hrs. In the UK if you have advanced issues – spine, ortho, etc. – be prepared to wait half a year or more.
Also keep an eye out for “Complementary Private Insurance”. While France is often cited as having “the best” healthcare (I’ve lived there) did you know that 92% of all French have supplemental private insurance?
Also keep an eye out for high co-insurance payments and slow reimbursement rates, rationing, etc. – why? Because they slow (prevent) people from going to the Doctor. That lowers statistics as it provides a disincentive to the ‘consumer’. Sound familiar?
About this claim (with that commercial totally red US map) that the Obamacare law is a huge tax?
I don’t think so. “The penalty will be the greater of a flat dollar amount per person, OR a percentage of your taxable income. For dependents under 18, the penalty is half the individual amount. The annual penalty is capped at an amount roughly equal to the cost of the national average premium for a qualified health plan — in other words you cannot be forced to pay more than it would have cost to buy a plan in the first place. Flat dollar amount for individuals: $95 in 2014; $325 in 2015; and $695 in 2016; increases indexed to inflation after that, subject to a cap.”
Since I’m already paying almost $100/month for Medicare Part B taking another $8, $27 or $58/month out of Social Security will tax me a bit, but is doable. The 20% coverage from INSURANCE Companies is about $350/month. No Way, Jose!

g.. The Department of Energy was created in 1977 to lessen our dependence on foreign oil. It has ballooned to 16,000 employees with a budget of $24 billion a year and we import more oil than ever before. You had 32 years to get it right and it is an abysmal failure.
You have FAILED in every “government service” you have shoved down our throats while overspending our tax dollars.
AND YOU WANT AMERICANS TO BELIEVE YOU CAN BE TRUSTED WITH A GOVERNMENT-RUN HEALTH CARE SYSTEM ??

We’re “broke” & can’t help our own Seniors, Veterans, Orphans, Homeless etc.,???????????
In the last months we have provided aid to Haiti , Chile , and Turkey .. And now Pakistan ……previous home of bin Laden. Literally, BILLIONS of DOLLARS!!!
Our retired seniors living on a ‘fixed income’ receive no aid nor do they get any breaks while our government and religious organizations pour Hundreds of Billions of $$$$$$’s and Tons of Food to Foreign Countries! We have hundreds of adoptable children who are shoved aside to make room for the adoption of foreign orphans .
AMERICA: a country where we have homeless without shelter, children going to bed hungry, elderly going without ‘needed’ meds, and mentally ill without treatment -etc,etc.
YET………………….
They have a ‘Benefit’ for the people of Haiti on 12 TV stations, ships and planes lining up with food, water, tents clothes, bedding, doctors and medical supplies.
Imagine if the *GOVERNMENT* gave ‘US’ the same support they give to other countries. Sad isn’t it?

Robert – Liberals have failed at every government program they have attempted here just as their idiotic system has failed everywhere it has been instituted across the globe for over 150 years.
Even as it implodes before their very eyes in Europe today they arrogantly proceed with their Marxist plans to enslave this country because it will be “better” than capitalism. The FACT that socialism in Europe would have failed decades ago without the U.S. taxpayers providing their national defense and sea lane security escapes them entirely. Now Europe cannot pay its social bills, much less provide for their own defense. Europe is destroyed, they cannot be saved and will most likely fall to an Asian or Middle Eastern aggressor of which there are many.
I disagree with your assertion that the “government” should provide assistance to U.S. indigent instead of foreign countries. The U. S. government should do neither, they could then cut tax rates across the board and get out of the way of citizens trying to make it on their own. Government support in Europe is what has destroyed them, along with a self-destructive immigration policy like the one we have here.
Less government, not more is the answer.
Honestly this is a case of humans being selfish versus forwarding the human race. As a person who pays for his own health insurance. I would love for premiums to go down if that means everyone has to get health insurance than so be it. I still blame this ridiculous over priced health system we have.
Many companies would cut preventative medicine if Obamacare wasn’t in place. Preventative medicine is much cheaper than trying for a fix before you’re about to die. So the tea party is telling you to let these insurance companies cut your preventative care. So when you are diagnosed with stage 3 breast cancer were gonna let them charge you up the butt for a fix that might not even work.
I really think these paranoid tea party republicans should really double check their sources. Instead of believing every single “word”, “survey”, “chart” and “fact” that some company was paid to fabricate by the same people who run the insurance companies. They just want to stay rich. And they’ll exploit tea party stupidity if they have to.
Obama Tax is what happens when government goes unchecked. Obama seems to be using his taxpayer funded law degree to dismantel the US constitution. I normally would not suggest this, however; he seems like the most angery sitting president I can remember or know from history. He seems to be motivated by something far different than what he wants us to see. If the closestest thing to a job I ever had was a community organizer paid for by decept and emotion, had a got a fee ride on education, and never had to compete in a mix demographics political arena for my job, you would think I would be the most modest person on the face of the planet.
Obam had spent almost four years blaming a previous present who has show respect tot the office by not using the power he has (the press) to put Obam in his place. Obama has and continues to act like a spoild child yet wants the common person to think he represents them..
When you never had to earn your way you do not respect where the money comes from. Regardless of our political background, this is something we all try to teach our children. When your child wants a car you make them responsible for some of it in order to build respect and a sense of owership.
This president and the libs. have no sense of ownership and / or loyality to this country. So how can we expect them continue down the same path of using emotion to stir the pot of a divided nation.
Obama Tax is no different. Here are some questions and facts to bakc up this statement:
1. Why did the demecrates refuse to allow republicans to participate in its design?
2. If a Vet. had healthcare why will they be forece to take this insurance or pay a high tax.
3. Who is to determine what is afordable to a family who is already poor, receives no housing assistance, or few other government benefits yet is expected to compete with those who get a free place to live, free food, free medecal… This is forcing the poor to live off the system instead of making their own way. This is no accident. The more control you have the more you can exercise it.
4. If I am already paying a tax (medicare) out of my payroll taxes then am I being double taxed? Isn’t double taxation against the law?
5.Did Justice Roberts realize that the law could be overturned as the masses disputed the double taxation issue or some other tax issues which make this law illegal or at least giving almost every American a waver from payment or tax penality?
5. How can this bill create a better and more affordable healthcare by increasing the risk? They can’t and they know it. This is why they have insisted on the young and healthy being forced on the program. Then they claim there would be little penality. Do you think a young person making 25k per year and has a family to feed thinks over $700 out of their tax return not a lot of money?
6. Why are those who have paid into the healthcare system (medicare) for their whole adult life only going to get 80% coverage while those who do not work get 100% coverage through medicaid.? Is this their idea of fair medical coverage?
7. Why are news stations like MSNBC a 24 hr. billboard for this president? Why are do they give him a pass on almost everything no matter how serious (fast and furious)? Don’t they realize that until they stop making excuses for someone based on their skin color that they are the once who promote a racist agenda. Could it be because it pays big? Just ask Al Sharpton and Jessie Jackson among others (most who are white). Why is it that a black republican is made out to be an Uncle Tom? I bring all this up because this is how they have demonized many of the Tea Party minority members. They can’t stand the fact that people of color might actually use intellegent thinking insted of emotional knee-jerk reactions to determine which way to vote.
There has always been an agenda to tear this country down from the inside. There are those of us who remember other countries attempts to reach out to political leaders and others who could sway opinion for this very purpose of the distruction of the country. Do we really think this just went away. None were imprisioned, so why should we think this. Many of these radical parties still exist and are a very part of the democrate party. Those who attempt to expose this have been threatned, or dismantled through legal actions. This in itself sounds like the very tactics I am speaking.

I, having been stricken wit cancer 18 months ago, 3 surgeries, numerous doctors and if they are working only for money the need a “shrink” Do senior citizens in Ohio know that when barack does away with Medicare Advantage they will have to move to Florida ( where Obama bought a vote to get his obamacare) or pay for a supplement to medicare. His plan was to keep people out of the emergency rooms where will Seniors go when they can’t afford a supplement. AARP and Obama pandering together. With all the Doctor, Nurses and their staff in nearly 2 years i have not met 1 that liked obamacare.I also have nurses in my family do they like the control factor? NO!!!! If i lived in Canada i would like most cancer patients not survived.
