Honoring A Hero

I stood in the hot sun and wind with my two daughters and hundreds of others. We stood silently, holding American flags, hands over our heart, and tears streaming down our face. We came to honor and give respect to the family of another fallen soldier. The past few years this scene has been repeated too many times across America. Young lives cut short because they were willing to give the ultimate sacrifice.
This time, we honor 23 year old PFC Cale Miller who was killed on a combat mission in Afghanistan. Our community came together to honor Cale and celebrate his life. In the early morning hours volunteers came before us and placed American flags along the route he and his family would travel. As time approached, people began to line the street. People were standing mile after mile. Some holding signs, others flags, while others stood quietly. Firemen flew a large flag off the lift of a firetruck. I saw a grandfather, with his three grandchildren, explaining what the day was about as they each clutched a small flag. This is how we pass our love for America to the younger generation. We show them what it means to love your country so much that you place your life on the line. A small group of teens gathered and talked softly as they waited. Older Americans came with lawn chairs because it was to difficult for them to stand. Perhaps the sweetest sight of all was a group of a dozen or so 3-year-olds as they stood with their preschool teachers, all waving small, American flags and waiting.
Silence covered the crowd as the police motorcycles approached. The black hearse that held the body of the hero passed by, followed by his family in black limousines. One of the family members pressed her palm to the window as she looked out at those that came to pay respect. Then came the beautiful site of hundreds of Patriot Guard riders. Watching hundreds of patriots on motorcycles, with flags waving behind them is an inspiring and touching site.
“The American Soldier does not fight because he hates who is in front of him. He fights because he loves who is behind him.” – Unknown
You may not agree with the ongoing war in Afghanistan, but support our soldiers; they are losing limbs, suffering family hardships, experiencing financial hardships, and giving their lives. A soldier that comes home is a hero, dead or alive, and we owe then our support and encouragement.

That was beautiful. I felt like I was there honoring him with you.
Very beautifully written. You have a gift Leah. My eyes are watering as I write this response. I love my Country, your Country, Our country. America is the greatest nation on earth and as long as we have Patriots like us and Cale, we always will be. The Patriot Guard is awesome. Haven’t seen them in person but watched a number of videos of them. Very touching. We should all include Cale’s family and friends in our prayers. Thanks Leah.
A single day of dedication to one soldier is well deserved by that fallen hero. However every morning as the sun bask your face you and every other American should realize those fallen and those Veterans and Active duty defenders of freedom do it freely, without fanfare. And as we now have an all volunteer force, these are truly free men and women defending what we all hold precious our personal freedom guaranteed us by the Constitution and enabled by those who gave and continue giving today,,,,
Please pray also for our nation, that those who lead us do not tuck tail like the 70′s. After Roe vs. Wade we as a nation have allowed 58,000,000 million sons and daughters to be murdered in the womb… we can not afford to lose our blood on the field and then count it for nothing by running away. It is hard, but if we have started to engage an enemy let victory be ours. GOD Bless our Heroes.
OPEN LETTER TO OUR STATE GOVERNORS
I understand you do not want to bite the hand that feeds you. However, when any official of the United States Government violates the Supreme Law of the Land (Article 6 Section 1 clause 2 and Article 6 Section 1 clause 3) that officer also violates the State Constitution, which you have sworn an Oath to uphold, which is presumably equal to the Military Oath to Defend this Nation and its Constitution against all Enemies both Foreign and Domestic. Our Soldiers go to foreign countries to fight battles to protect your State, your office and your job, and when they come home they expect Justice in the Courts, not a Judiciary or an Executive, which treats their Sacrifices with Contempt. It is your responsibility to insist upon an investigation of the wayward and unlawful behavior of the IRS and Federal Government in the State in which you serve. Remember, in the State you are Governor, your Power is Superior to that of the Federal Government and the people of the State expect you to exercise it or turn in the badge of your office. Quit being a Political Prostitute!

The 6th Amendment guarantees the Private person the right to face their accuser on the witness stand and be able to cross-examine their accuser.

I have done many of these funerals, being a Patriot Guard Rider was a calling for me. It was a chance to honor our American Heroes. Thank you for your heart felt message. Standing in 100 degree weather or the freezing weather is the least we can do to honor them. I went on a ride a few weeks back for Marine Crp Justin Mcloud, the man served our country proudly and while doing so stepped on a land mine and lost his left arm and both legs, he survived this terrible ordeal. Through a very special program called homes for the troops, they are building him a new home. So for this 4th of July I am remembering why we have our freedom, it’s because of the brave men and women past and present that have fought and died for us. I will never forget. Let’s keep them in our thoughts and prayers. Thank you….Roger( Proud member of the the PGR of Missouri)
Thanks Roger for being a member of the Patriot Guard. As a rider myself I appreciate what you guys do. Thanks again!
