Whats a girl supposed to look like …?

I’m a girl and I own guns! In fact, I own several. Guns are the ultimate accessories. Every morning I make a decision of which gun I will carry that will go with what I’m wearing. This is so surprising to people. I recently decided to go to a local store to buy another, um … accessory. I told the salesman I had my CCH (Conceal Carry Holder license), because I knew it would save me time with the background check. As I handed the license to him, he stared at me like I was from Mars. He looked at me then my license and then back at me and said, “Uh, you don’t look like you have a conceal carry!” I responded with, “What am I supposed to look like?” He laughed without responding and went back to the paperwork.
This wasn’t the first time I have encountered this response. It made me think, why is there a stereotype for people who have guns? I’m a wife, a mom and a teacher. I clip coupons, bake cakes and wear lip gloss. I don’t have one piece of camo clothing in my closet. Being a girl doesn’t mean I can’t enjoy owning, shooting and carrying a gun. I’ve gone through plenty of training, so I know how to shoot! I’ve taken marksmanship classes and defensive shooting classes. I practice at ranges and in practical shooting situations. I hope that I never have to pull my gun to defend myself or my family but I feel good knowing I have the knowledge and training if it is ever necessary.
Don’t let being a woman stop you from taking charge. Take some classes, get a gun and learn to defend yourself. Being able to defend yourself is the ultimate in sexy…

One good looking girl . I would have liked to met you 30 years ago.
I have nothing but respect for you. I am glad you love your guns. I, too am married. I recently retired from Corrections in Ohio. I was a Lieutenant at a Maximum Security Facility. I have been shooting for over 40 years. I have qualified annually with a 38 revolver, Mini-14 (.223 cal) and 12 gauge riot shot gun. .50 cal, 45 auto pistol and M-14 while serving my Country in the Navy. I have been to a number of shooting classes. I am getting ready to attend the NRA basic pistol instructors course. I will then be able to teach Conceal Carry Weapons permit courses. The only thing I can’t understand about you and women like you,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,, how do you have such control??????????????? I would have smacked the taste out of that guys mouth. Take care.

Thank you for sharing an excellent story of your responsible spirit to loving care for yourself, family, and friends, etc.
The clerk, at the shop, might be another victim of the ignorance that has dominated my state, California, for years:
“Attorney General Eric Holder supported using Hollywood, the media and government officials in order to “really brainwash people” into opposing firearm ownership, according to a 1995 C-SPAN video that emerged Sunday online.”

way to go! Props to you! Even though I too am a woman, I guess I’m a bit more in the stereotypic class of owning guns…I rarely wear makeup, I own more camo than civilian clothes, and I live to hunt (well, with my bow anyway). i would think it would be more difficult for anyone who did not grow up knowing they were going to be a hunter to even want to have anything to do with weapons.
You go
You go girl! All the girls in my family have their permits, something they shouldn’t have to have, it should be a given that anyone can carry if they wish.
We need to try and engage all to vote all the links out and make a law that no one could ever challenge gun ownership and use again. Our guns is the only thing that equalizes our ability to protect ourselves.
The founders made the Second Amendment to insure the First Amendment could be insured!
Well done Leah. I wish more would take your lead.
how many people have you killed?
Why would you make a stupid comment like that ?
You don’t make any sense. You consider a concealed weapon a fashion accessory?
Marry me!
You go girl!! I wish I could get my wife to feel the same way. In Arizona, we don’t need any kind of license to carry openly or concealed. Way to go, ARIZONA!!!
If you succeed at your responsibility, you certainly have authority to defend with any choice you make. This is the opposite of what our president does.
Obviously you Miss have too much money and absolutely no brain. I would never trust you with a gun. If you buy guns to match different outfits then you’re an idiot extraordinaire. My Sig Sauer P250 .40 cal is black and as everyone know, black goes with anything lol. Besides the fact I only need one. Grow a brain woman. Chances are the gun you have that matches your outfit will be the one they can bury you with. Why not, it matches. Spend more time getting familiar with one gun. Only then will it not let you down should it be needed. learn it as if your very life depended on it. You flaunty moron! lmfao…….bwauhahahahhhahaha lol
Joel, I wonder what it is like to have absolutely no sense of humor? The point of this blog is why are there stereotypes for people who buy guns? Perhaps you are not aware of challenges that women face when carrying a gun, but what you wear does affect which gun you carry. Have you ever tried to carry a Glock 17 on a skirt with an elastic waist? I’ve had training and lots of it. I can shoot accurately and quickly and I can do it with a multitude of guns, in the light of day or at night. I am sorry that you only have one gun. You are missing out on a lot of fun! Sadly, you have bought into the same stereotype I was writing about. Cheers!
Leah – first things first, do you have any sisters?
Second, don’t let a fool like Joel get to you down. I didn’t hear you say you were looking at colors of firearms, rather considering size, weight and other carry factors that men don’t have to worry about.
Those of us with military experience were trained and cross-trained in a variety of weapons – pistols, rifles, machine-guns, grenade launchers, rocket launchers, mortars, artillery, etc. The point being that the military recognizes the importance of having a soldier trained with multiple weapons systems as they may lose the use of their primary weapon. Can you imagine having a one gun snob being the only one left in your defilade and him refusing to man the belt-fed weapon to repel an attack because he is only trained in using a rifle? Ridiculous!
When ole Joel’s .40 S&W pop gun runs out of corks what will he do if the only other weapon available to him is a Glock 17 or snub-nosed .38 revolver? I don’t own any Glocks because they do not fit my hand but I know the controls and how to operate the weapon, not just the trigger. Then there is the ability to service the weapon beyond the normal field strip and clean drill.
I can pretty much guaranty you that most LEO’s off duty carry weapon is different than their primary duty weapon, in fact many carry more than one weapon(firearms) of different makes and models WHILE on duty.
Keep shooting.
By choosing a weapon appropriate to the mission and environment you are making the right choice. Professionals know that the one gun fits all approach is a recipe for failure.
Thank you Peter! I’m glad to see that the blog was understandable! Thank you for your kind words. I absolutely love shooting! Learning to use different weapons and becoming proficient and comfortable with them is a challenge AND a lot of fun! No sisters!
i pray u dont get killed by your own gun
