The Congressman Who Cried Cuts
May 17, 2012 at 9:53 pm in John A. Boehner, News by Tea Party Patriots 7 Comments

With the sweeping 2010 victory in the House, there was some glimmer of hope that Congress would try to get its fiscal house in order, especially with the pledge from Republicans to cut $100 billion in discretionary spending. However, like a reverse auction the amount went from $100 billion to $61 billion to $38.5 billion, which in reality turned out to be $352 million.
Despite the failure to make real, deep cuts in spending, many thought the Republicans would at least draw the line in the sand and take a strong stance against raising the debt ceiling, forcing Congress to make serious spending reductions. As you may remember, according to Zogby, 60% of all voters opposed the raising of the debt ceiling. Sadly, Republicans did not stand with the people and instead, began to negotiate to raise the debt ceiling in exchange for cuts.
As we all now know, the ‘debt ceiling deal’ was no deal for the American people. It granted President Obama the ability to raise the debt ceiling by $2.4 trillion with very little in real cuts, strapping our future generations with a greater debt burden.
Now, several months later, we are back to square one with talks about the need to raise the debt ceiling once again. Of course, the same rhetoric from the Republicans, particularly Speaker Boehner, is being purported.
Like the boy who cried wolf, the cries of cuts hold little meaning to the point that Democrats in Congress will ignore them and the American people won’t believe them.
In the words of Rush (the band, not the political pundit), “show me, don’t tell me,” Speaker Boehner. It’s at that time we will start listening and believing you.

must get rid of the establishment republicans…….i didn’t expect much relief, but i was hoping they wouyld stop the runaway train…………
We must get term limits for the Senate and House. It is the only way to get results.
Hey Bob, I’m with you, but term limits aren’t enough. We need to make congress a part time job. Send these yahoos home for 6 months out of the year.; Make them face the people they are screwing over. Bet they’d think twice about some of the crap that goes on.
How do you, I and other find out how many would support term limits?
How do you, I and other get it to be an issue for the tea party?
They still fear the main stream media. We all know the internet and talk radio has fundamentally changed how a whole lot of people get their information and form their opinions. This will eventually result in a backbone transplant for the establishment Rs, but who can wait that long?
House Republicans to Boehner: Cowboy Up
House Republicans are getting ready for the battle to November and are finding ways to get House Leadership, in particular Speaker John Boehner, into fighting mode for the months ahead. Boehner is being pushed to take bolder steps toward advancing a conservative agenda and holding Attorney General Eric Holder accountable for deliberately failing to comply with a subpoena from the House Oversight Committee regarding Operation Fast and Furious. Boehner has been balking at moving forward with contempt charges for Holder, leaving members of the Oversight Committee frustrated after more than a year of investigation into the lethal scandal. More from POLITICO:
The feeling was best illustrated Wednesday at the Capitol Hill Club, a private GOP haunt adjacent to the Republican National Committee’s offices.
More than a dozen conservative lawmakers — including Republican Study Group Chairman Jim Jordan of Ohio — met there for dinner, and the topic of conversation veered toward how to push leadership to pursue a “more profound direction” forward, according to several lawmakers in attendance.
The main topic: Why, conservatives ask, is the party holding back when it has spent a year waiting — fruitlessly — for Holder to comply with a subpoena?
“There’s no use to having the majority if you are going to be hamstrung by your perception of political vicissitudes,” said Rep. Trey Gowdy of South Carolina , who was at the dinner.
One example of such pressure on leadership is coming soon. Conservatives — primarily those on the House Oversight and Government Reform Committee — are circulating a letter to Boehner pressing him on his handling of the “Fast and Furious” scandal.
During a private meeting with Cantor and Majority Whip Kevin McCarthy (R-Calif.), Boehner decided to slow the pace of Committee Chairman Darrell Issa. But the speaker also said he supports holding the administration accountable and said he’s open to all options in the investigation of the botched Fast and Furious program, in which guns were sold to Mexican cartels, resulting in deaths of federal agents. Issa and his committee expected to vote on the contempt citation this week, according to lawyers who were preparing for a hearing.
Boehner has no excuse on this one. It is the Constitutional duty for the U.S. Congress to oversee and hold the Executive branch accountable; basic balancing of power. Eric Holder and officials in his Justice Department have done nothing but obstruct Congress is their efforts to fulfill that duty. There are thousands of people dead in Mexico and two federal agents dead as a result of Fast and Furious. Simply avoiding contempt charges for Holder to avoid a political dust-up with the Obama administration would be pathetic and a denial of justice for the American people and the victims of this reckless program.
To be fair, Boehner did come out for the first time publicly last week to announce his support of the investigation into Fast and Furious being led by Chairman Darrell Issa saying, “All options are on the table,” in reference to contempt charges for Holder. We’ll see if actions follow.

Initially I thought it might be good to have a crying House Majority Leader. Thought we might finally have some humility which is so sorely lacking in Washington. When I saw that the tears were matched by a childish inability to make hard choices and stick by them and the juvenile desire for everyone to like him, I came to understand these are crocodile tears shed by Speaker Boehner.
Crocodile tears Mr. Speaker. Save them and save yourself the embarrassment coming for you in your next re-election. Resign.
Speaker Boehner is the best example of how the Republican Party is BROKEN and why it must be replaced with the T.E.A. Party.
