Girlfriends, Let’s Talk About How to Convert a Democrat

Think movie scene: a restaurant anywhere in America. A group of five female friends are sitting around talking — three are Democrats, two are Republicans. At a table with no salt shaker and a Michelle Obama-approved menu, the Democrats’ conversation starts like this:
Can you believe the Republicans are taking away our contraception?
This dialogue quickly deteriorates into a misinformed, Obama-fueled fiasco: the wicked “one percent,” the “fairness” of free health care, equal outcomes rather than equal opportunities, etc.
The Republican women look at each other with an unspoken, secret “OMG,” yet they do what conservatives do best: remain conservative. As the Democrat women ramble on about the inequality and wickedness of America — taking no heed that anyone else at the table could possibly disagree with them — the conservative women remain silent.
They do not enter the fray because they know the risks. They know that the Democrats, not able to defend their wiles with wisdom, will attack the Republican women’s character. They know that Democrats cannot have a reasonable conversation, and a brouhaha will ensue.
The Republican women, who feel intimidated, remain mute. They believe their inner fortitude is enough. But is it? No, it is not. The stakes are too high. The republic is vulnerable, our children’s futures in jeopardy.
It is now crucial for conservatives to roll up their sleeves and to join the debate. Isolating into the haven of friends who are of the same mind at home, in church, and even on talk radio is no longer an option. Preaching to the choir will not win our country back in 2012.
I must know some unusual democrats! The ones I know don’t attack my character, and are capable of discussing their beliefs rationally and logically. Do you even know a Democrat?
well, yes you must know some unusal democrats. the ones i know are tunnel visioned and brainwashed and if you dare to represent a different view or question an opinion they will drop you without a second look back. happy for you. do u even know a democrat?
Silly girls… Just order the most expensive lunch ever and when your done get up and walk out letting your lib girl friends take care of the bill. When they complain tell them they shouldn’t because at least they are paying for something that is nessecary to life… not like those un nessecary birhtcontrol pills that they want you to pay for and sit back and watch the steam roll!

I actually do know quite a few democrats. They are my mom’s family. My mom converted to a conservative republican after she married my dad and to this day half of them still accuse him of brainwashing her. They treat my mom like an idiot, my dad like a jerk, and take every opportunity they can to try to convert me and my siblings to their mindset. They have attacked us for homeschooling, liking Sarah Palin vs. Obama, being “too religious” and having 10 kids. My mom has 4 brothers and 3 sisters and they have all attacked her more than once.
I like this, however I am not a republican/tea party member who can remain silent. Ignorance never intimidates me. I would speak up to these “girlfriends” and point out their ignorance. Too many people in the world just stay silent….no matter what the outcome the time is right to express our convictions, our disappointments.
Most of the democrats I know don’t have a clue to what’s going on. They don’t pay attention, like it won;t affect them. They’ll be the first to complain when we become a totally socialistic nation.
I think it is quite funny, both sides demonizing each other. I’m as conservative as the next fellow, but the Democrats are human beings as well. If we want real change, we have to compromise with the left. Nothing can get done if both sides focus more on calling the other irrational and evill than proving they have an effectIve plan of government. Let’s set an example for our liberal counterparts and be civil when we voice discontent.
I take that personally Phyllis. Unlike the teabags, I read, I vote, and I volunteer. You just whine and wave signs about “socialist democrats” while sucking up socialst security and medicare—-may I remind you , both are SOCIALIST programs. Be a true teabag and return your checks to the treasury and buy privite health insurance, or better yet, have your church pay your medical bills. Duh.

Sigh, such a worn and tired arguement. May I remind you that we are forced to pay into Social Security and Medicare. Both of which are going broke by the way. Another shining example of the problems with socialistic programs.
Just give me back all the money I paid into it, minus a small percentage to fund a safety net for those “truly unalble” to help themselves, and I would be glad not receive any checks from the government.
I know many Democrats, both male and female, and you cannot discuss politics with them. I agree that they are deaf to reason. Maby there are some Repubs like that too, but I haven’t met them. I find that in a mention of voting for Obama, many suddenly become quiet. They voted for Obama but now are embarassed that they did. But I think most will vote for him again because they cannot bring themselves to vote for the “other” guy.

The best way to convert the Democrats is to point out the truths. The truth is the Democrats always try to persuade by using feelings and emotions to make their determination. Such as, the poor illegal alien women need prenatal healthcare for their unborn child. The answer is, they must not receive any funding for their pregnant girls, women and their children.
They must push their hold on sentiment out of the equation. They have broken the law and are here illegally. The part is that their are studies that show how much that proposed illegal prenatal care will eventually lead to. The majority will end up receiving government financial support for through their entire childhood and beyond into adulthood.
The American taxpayer can no longer support that demographic. You must cast away your feelings for those children and be logical. The nation is out of money and the Democrats demand you support those children before you can support you own.
So can you convince the Democrats then? Even with the statistics that show each child will end up costing upwards of just over a hundred thousand dollars…each?
It is tricky, but one we have been addressing.

Mary, you can’t be “serious” accusing the Tea Party for dividing the country. The Democrat party, and in particular the President, has done more to divide this country than is to believed. They are continuously pitting women against men, blacks against whites, latinos against non latinos, young against old, rich against poor, gay against straight.
Also, we strive to not let this Administration or any politician effect our lives personally. We believe in personal responsability and prosper not because of restrictive government, but in spite of it. There comes a point though where personal freedoms have eroded so much that this becomes nearly impossible. That’s what the Tea Party is fighting so hard to prevent.
The cult attitude comes from the Left through indoctrination from the schools, the mainstream media, and the entertainment industry. People are brainwashed by these institutions to believe you will be taken care of from cradle to grave by the government, as long as you just do as they say, and vote for Liberal Democrats.

They want the social security they paid into to be there when they retire, They want their 401k to be protected from the thieves on Wall Street and the derivative games , They want to be dealt a straight hand when they purchase a home,they want their kids to get a decent education from the tax dollars they spend. The social programs you speak of are peanuts compared to the money lost through fraud and abuse and they want to direct people’s anger at each other instead of them the real thieves both republican and democrat. Your poor neighbor who was maybe disabled in an accident, lost a job, or had some other misfortune is not your enemy, it is the government that is robbing you blind while you easily distracted people are busy blaming whoever they tell you to blame this week. Democrats in my family had to change from a blue state and all the media brainwashing that occurred was changed by now living in a red state and seeing the real world in person before change occurred to conservatism then and only then the light shined through!!!

Many of these posts are absolutely sickening to me and display a huge amount of ignorance about the Democratic party. You must be willing to recognize that half of our nation is NOT ignorant or lacking in morals or religious values – they simply follow different morals, different ideology, and their interpretation of religion is often different. But it is ignorant of any Republican to claim that all Democrats – a huge percentage of our nation – are ignorant. A country based on the strength of the “common person” can never succeed if those people do not respect their differences and accept their opponents as equals. We must continue fighting for what we believe in not by degrading our opponents as “ignorant” or “immoral”, but rather by reasoning with them through intelligence and wisdom.
I have so many friends of different political persuasion. To be fair, I find that there are ignorant and narrow-minded citizens on both ends of the spectrum. I recently had the opportunity to spend the afternoon with a very mixed crowd of folks where politics was the feature conservation topic. Several liberals were confidently spouting off cliche rhetoric, but so were many conservatives. You could tell that each side thought the other was blind and woefully misinformed. The conversations went nowhere, and resentment was the only outcome. But I was very encouraged by several citizens who engaged in more meaningful discussion. I participated in conversations that were civil, thoughtful, and even enlightening. I noticed some liverals agreeing that government can be very wasteful and that our national debt is a crisis. I also heard conservatives agree that the government has an important roll in regulating some private enterprise for the protection of pur society. In the end, I concluded what I already knew–that the real divide in this country is among the close-minded zealots of our country. Some have marinated for so long in the frustration, anger, and even hate for their partisan enemies that they are no longer capable of compromise or change. Hopefully, those of us who remain rational and willing to work together for our common good will not become a minority. We know what happens then, and it is not something we want.

However, reading this made me laugh out loud. You really want to ‘change’ the country? Pointing out how stupid and closed-minded the Democrats are is not the way to do it. They are every bit apart of this country as the so-called ‘TeaParty Patriots.’
In fact, if I were to argue, I would say the Tea Party is the most closed minded political group in the history of the United States (Besides the conservative Democratic South in the 1850s and 1860s). The constitution was written two-hundred-30 some years ago when there were ten million people living in the country. Now there are upwards of 350 million. That is why the constitution is fairly ambiguous. The founding fathers knew the world would only grow more complicated, so they wrote language that allowed for more liberal actions– if need be.
And I’ll tell you why Democrats are so staunched in their opinion- Bleeding hearts, maybe. But the majority of it is based on the fact that ‘money’ drives the other more conservative side. Especially the Tea Party. It’s all about how can I keep more money.
Which is important definitely.
But things like the National debt- Conservatives just point to how bad the liberals are doing. They offer no ‘reasonable’ solution. Sorry, but cutting taxes actually increases the Federal debt. SHOCKING, I know. Also scream all you want about how Social Security, Medicaid and Medicare are socialist programs, but is there any reality of getting rid of them? No.
I’d like to see the Tea Party offer pragmatic solutions, which doesn’t involve going back to the basics of the 230 year old constitution. We will fall off the map as a world power if we did that. Also, offer some DAMN SOLUTIONS that make sense, instead of preying off people’s fear that the Democrats have a platform that will fail.
You can’t debate with a Democrat, they just get loud, call you names, and sometimes become violent. People like that really shouldn’t be allowed to vote. The best solution, In My Opinion, is to require a literacy and civics test before someone is allowed to register to vote.
We need a license to rive a car, why not to help drive the nation?
And what standard would you use for the license to vote? Yours? Mine? I’m sure my ideal would vary from yours. Remember that even as the ‘founding fathers’ thought about issues concerning our government there were major differences between Jefferson and Hamilton and Madison. Difference was that they were willing to negotiate and saw the other men’s views as equally valid. They did not see a need to “convert” them to their points of view. The entire concept of needing to ‘convert’ democrats seems arrogant from the beginning. What makes the conservative viewpoint any more valid than a progressive viewpoint? Going into a conversation with an AGENDA of conversion rather than an exchange of ideas means that you are having a debate, not a conversation. Perhaps the problem with the “conversations” you claim to be having with democrats is that they are ambushed confrontations and not conversations at all. If someone has a talk with me with the expressed intent to prove to me just how stupid and wrong I am, and use any means and any tone to express it to me, of course I will be defensive, rude,and argumentative right back. Perhaps if we would go into a conversation instead of an ambush and allow for free exchange of ideas we might get different results. Do you think it might be worth a try? It works for me. Remember that insanity is defined as doing the same thing over and over and expecting different results……………

Unfortunately I think many of these tea party people are just average people of a bit lower than average intelligence and a pinch of more racism thrown in, who have been stirred up by groups like the Koch bros. Many people are struggling now and people like the Kochs just misdirected the people’s anger. “It’s the illegals fault you don’t have a job”. It’s the gays that caused hurricane Sandy” It is healthcare that is destroying our country not the unaccounted for trillions gone missing from the defense dept. They are coming to take your guns, and on and on. They actually pit people not only against one another but against themselves. The tea party played a huge role in destroying the Republican Party. I have seen numerous interviews with tea party members, and when asked to elaborate on their signs or talking points, they are unable. There is very little or no difference in republicans and democrats. Look at how the both have voted on bills that suspend or limit our constitutional rights.
Patriot act- suspends due process of law to US citizens. The renewal allows for indefinate detention os US citizens
HR347- limits free speech and makes it a felony to do so in the “no free speech zones”
FAA authorization- Soon to be signed into law. It allows 30,000 drones to monitor US citizens in our own skies.

I have said many times we need to return to citizen legislators. Make congress a part time job. Cut the time they are in Washington to no more than 6 months. Send them home the other 6. Make them work in the areas they are raping and destroying. Would MItt have said let Detroit go Bankrupt if he had to work in Detroit or if his family depended on wages earned from suppliers to an auto manufacturer? The reason our legislators are out of touch with the common worker is that they aren’t workers. If we cut the salaries of congress and limit the amounts they can make from “speaking engagements” and make them dependent upon the same employment system the rest of the country relies upon, then you’ll see a quic turn around in attitudes.
I would completely agree with you if the Supreme Court did not hang in the balance. Or if there was a viable option to vote in a 3rd party candidate, unfortunately that is not the case. The extreme republicans make up stuff about how sharia law is a threat here and they need to pass laws to ban it while at the same time promoting the same kind of insertion of their religion into our legal system. He fact that we are even debating equal rights for women in 2012 is absurd. Plus the Republicans Mitch McConnel to be exact have openly stated their number one goal is to make Obama a one term president. Not to create jobs, protect consumers, renew infrastructure, improve veterans benefits, balance the budget…They make it clear they have no regard for country and that their agenda comes before anything else. I don’t agree with all Obama has done, but I believe he will do a lot less harm over the next 4 years than a Mitt Romney . Maybe we can work on changing our election system over those four years and we will finally be able to get a person in their that reflects the true will of the people.
I just love how these liberal women call for eqaulity but how is it equality when you want someone else to pay for your sexual activities? With all the resources we have out there now and access to low cost BC these women still blame the Conservatives for their lack of personal responsibility. As a women who works and pays for her own birth control there is no way in this world I want my tax dollars to go to someone who can’t tell him to wrap it up or go buy a box of condoms hereself ! Why would anyone not want to provide free contraception, it is a business decision, why would they want to instead pay for the full prenatal, delivery and post natal care, and then perhaps continue to pay for the child throughout its life. If only they provided free birth control to your mother!

I think the reason many democrats react angrily or attack is out of frustration. We all have a family member or friend who holds to the Republican Party even though the Republican Party acts against them. It is especially troubling to see women , black people or gays vote republican when the Republicans are on the attack against these groups. Being Republican didn’t use to have the stigma of being considered mentally challenged but it does today and rightfully so. I am a woman voting Republican because I do not believe I am worthy of equal rights or equal pay, and If I get raped I don’t mind not being allowed to get an abortion, I will raise it on my own, and perhaps the rapist will be given visitation rights, I am gay or lesbian and I am voting Republican because I think the government should be able to limit my rights because of my sexuality. I am black and I am voting Republican cause it brings back memories seeing all those nooses the white people display at Republican events, I don’t mind that Mitt Romney had no problem belonging to a Religion that believed blacks were black because they were sinners. Wake up! If you are voting for Mitt Romney you are demonstrating your lack of intelligence. If you are a woman voting Republican, well, lets just say there is no Hope for you, you must be the type of woman who stays in an abusive relationship cause that is the relationship between the Republican Party and Women. Romney has also proven himself to be a liar over and over from the false story about Lockheed Martin laying off 123,000 workers if Obama elected, to the false ad about Jeep moving to China, where even Jeep came out and made a statement that the ad was false. Go back to your dinner with your girlfriends, and I think you are wise to keep your mouth closed unless you want people to realize what a fool you are.
