Connie Lanzisera: Why I joined the Tea Party

The Tea Party Patriots grassroots movement beaconed to me as a lighthouse beacons a ship to safety. It was guiding ordinary Americans back to the tenets of our Constitution. I joined this movement to surround myself with like-minded patriots whose sole goal was to return our country back to its original principles. A country founded on Judeo-Christian values and beliefs; a country proud of its citizens; an exceptional and honorable country.
Before I became a Tea Party Patriot, I thought of myself as a wife, mother, grandmother, daughter, sister and friend. I was you! I was naïve. I believed my elected representatives when they said they would stand for me. I believed them when they promised to keep our country’s best interest at heart. I believed that while I was a hard-working, tax-paying citizen – raising my children, going to church, leading a Girl Scout troop, managing our household – my government was protecting me from domestic and foreign enemies.
Now, I have discovered that the federal government is subverting our U.S. Constitution. There are over 30 czars that hold positions of power, running our country outside of our constitutional framework. The president, not the Congress, has created these czars. This means Congress does not have oversight of them. This is in direct violation of our Constitution.
The federal government’s out of control spending is bankrupting our country. As I write, our country’s debt is 100 percent of our GDP; this means we are spending more than the country is producing. The debt is currently over $15 trillion and that does not include the interest! And every time the politicians raise the debt ceiling, the debt to GDP ratio goes up. I believe placing our country on the verge of bankruptcy is shamefully unacceptable and irresponsible of our politicians.
The federal government is defying our constitutional protections and taking away our individual liberties by forcing American citizens to purchase healthcare under the new Obamacare law. The Internet has been hijacked. The Federal Communications Commission has overstepped its boundaries by attempting to regulate the Internet. And now the Obama administration is actively attempting to circumvent the First Amendment and censor free speech by bringing back their own version of the Fairness Doctrine to regulate political speech on the airwaves.
The federal government has declared war on free markets. The bailout of banks, auto companies, investment funds, and mortgage servicers indicates that they desire to monopolize and control the markets. When this happens, competition is dead. This causes fear and hesitation so businesses don’t invest or hire. If the federal government controls or owns majority shares in all markets, our businesses won’t have a choice of what to invest in and produce, and citizens won’t have a choice of which products to buy or where to buy them. Sounds like Obamacare, doesn’t it?
- When a government turns its back on its people, it is time to take action.
- When our own government apologizes for who we are, it is time to take action.
- When our own government is destroying the very foundation upon which our country was founded, the free-market, the American Dream, it is time to take action.
- When our own government promotes distribution of wealth and class warfare, it is time to take action.
- When our own government turns off the vital water supply to farmers and destroys crops, business, communities, families and lives, it is time to take action.
- When our own government becomes the enemy, it is time for “We The People” to take action.
We The People must take back our country and replace all politicians who will not adhere to the principles of the U.S. Constitution. As Thomas Paine said in 1776, “These are the times that try men’s souls.”
Today, I am a wife, mother, grandmother, daughter, sister, friend and a TEA PARTY PATRIOT. I am no longer naïve.
Thank you for your inspiring story. It is not an option for us to sit around and watch our Republic go to the Socialists. It is time for good Patriotic Americans to join the fight to Restore our Founding Principles. With God as our guide we will do it.

Thank you for your articulate and insightful comments. There is one candidate running in the republican primary that is exactly in line with what you are saying. I would like to humbly suggest that you and other Tea Party members look into the platform of congressman Ron Paul. He may not have the most charismatic personality or public speaking style, but if you look at his positions, you will see a courageous champion of constitutionally limited government. I strongly believe he represents our best choice by far for the coming election cycle.

Wow where to start with the disinformation posted, The Czars have NO POWER except to make recommendations, we are not spending 100% of our GDP, the Obama administration IS NOT trying to bring back the fairness doctrine (even though it wouldn’t be a bad idea)

Guess what makes corporate America more powerful? More government. You know why? More government=more regulations=loopholes/waivers that small businesses don’t have access to=less competition=more profit by elimination of competitors. More government is not the friend of the common man, in fact quite the opposite.
I’ve grown into a society that I believe is being run by our own government. Some how, i feel an over riding pain that has been shown to me by my government. I remember learning in school about the Boston Massacre, Innocent lives were over held by gun powder and British King Power. The cause THE BOSTON TEA PARTY…and Didn’t the British government try to tax our citizens so the citizens can use the tea? The American people didn’t agree on taxes because we were giving extra unaccounted money to another form of organization! That is fraud isn’t it-Definition of Wikipedia “In criminal law, a fraud is an intentional deception made for “”personal gain”" or to “”damage another individual”"; That is what i don’t understand now is why we have taxes, fees, New uncertain Laws that prohibit rights of PEOPLE TO ACT. How do “We The People” better ourselves as humans if we got majority of our so call “Democracy Power” in the hands of the “GOVERNMENT”. Exactly how many citizens of the US have a say in the GOVERNMENT now with all of these INJUST LAWs created by INJUST of unclaimed PEOPLE(rigged votes)!! People are growing in violence because the LAWs are violent, these Laws are inhuman, they set restrictions on human when really Consent of the Governed- The will of the people shall be the basis of the authority of government! EXAMPLE!!! IF i want to smoke weed, not just because everyone else does it, just because i like it..and there are many other people who smoke it for the same reason, im sure that majority of citizen of the US has smoke or so called tried to smoke it they still smoked! THE PEOPLE STILL SMOKE!! WHY IS MARIJUANA illegal then! huh! I believe alcohol and tobacco is more harmful to the body than POT. Pot is on the lower level of harmful drugs. PEOPLE STILL DO IT and it also a RESOURCE!!! a RESOURCE used to make materials, medicine, etc. even though now its a LAW, MORE people become criminals therefor they see themselves as bad and can’t get out “The System” if they are caught, they can’t get a job, they become prohibited from politics, they are just labels a bad..and are most of those people bad? NO, b/c our very presidents has smoked, artist, musicians anybody!! OUR GOVERNMENT IS OVERTHROWING THE PEOPLE WITH THE SECRET SERVICES THEY ARE KEEPING EVIDENCE FROM THE UNITED STATES CITIZEN WHY ARE SO MANY FILES BECOMING MISSING, WHERE DID THEY GO. IF NO ONE KNOW THEN THE FBI, the CIA, all those agencies emerged in NEW LAW, NEW WORLD ORDER, WE THE PEOPLE DID NOT WIN ..THE ONLY LAW for the citizens or humans it the CONSTITUTION of the UNITED STATES!!! I love your article and I totally agree. The Obama administration’s goals and desires remind me of the situation in the former Soviet Union. It scares me when I think of the direction our country is headed if Obama serves another term. Thank you for writing this; you are absolutely right.
It is a sad day in American when the only reason a person votes to elect a person to the presidency because he wants to smoke “pot”. It shows how “marijuana” has deststroyed those prescious brain cells. It appears that Ms. Lanzisera has not smoked “weed” because she sees that America is trouble for more reasons than the inablility to legally smoke marijuana.
